Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was again confronted on his 2013 immigration position Friday, being grilled for nearly 10 minutes by Fox News Channel host Greta Van Susteren.
In his lengthy âOn the Recordâ interview, Cruz referenced an exchange on immigration he had with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) at Tuesday nightâs GOP debate. In that exchange, Rubio confronted Cruz on stage and noted the Texas senator previously seemed to support for legalization of those in the U.S. illegally.
Van Susteren followed up on this in her interview Friday.
âYou supported not citizenship, but giving essentially â,â she said.
Cruz interjected, anticipating the rest of her sentence: âNope, that is factually incorrect.â
âWell, let me read you a letter that you wroteâ¦written on June 4, 2013, signed by you. And it talks about how critically the committee rejected, that would be the committee youâre trying to get this amendment to, rejected the Cruz amendment that would have allowed immigrants here to obtain legal status,â Van Susteren said. âThatâs not true?â
Cruz responded by noting that the letter was authored by not only him, but several other senators. He added that he introduced an amendment stripping a pathway to citizenship from the âgang of eightâ so-called amnesty bill.
âThey would have a legal status,â Van Susteren said.
âNo, it did not say they would have a legal status,â Cruz shot back.
âAm I reading this wrong?â Van Susteren asked.
Yeah. The whole interview was terrible. Really, really terrible. Greta is NOT the sharpest knife in the drawer by any means, but Ted was putting his policy and plans in very, very clear terms. Very easy to follow and understand.
Greta was intentionally being dense. Even Ted started to get frustrated with her.
It is ridiculous. Shame on her.

The Dems wanted voters aka citizens NOT legal residency unable to vote.
Cruz outplayed the Dems and these FOX boneheads are attacking Cruz over it.. disgusting
How did someone this stupid ever become a lawyer?
So was Faux News doing the bidding of the Rubio campaign?
The Magic 8-Ball says “signs point to yes”.
Has Greta ever behaved this way toward a Democrat?
Just refuses to understand the poison pill strategy.
Cruz was way over her head. She couldn’t follow the political logic at all. The interview really turned me against her. Fox is making some big mistakes with all Republican candidates except their favorites. Bush and Rubio.
Sometimes sucking up to management requires one to pretend to be a stupid as a box of hair.
Its Legalization status not citizenship that Cruz proposed and now he suggests it was a poison pill. I have a hard time buying this from Cruz who we have contributed to twice, and I am on his donor email list. Cruz did vote for a bill eventually, that didnât have his language in it. Maybe he at that point wanted to get along by going along, but its not convincing me.
What bothers me is Cruz wanting 5x the H1b visaâs as his position. I know most freepers like me donât like this position of Tedâs. But, I still like Ted on 95 percent of what he stands for. I wish he would publically disavow this stand.
I am an engineer and IT person, and believe me we have generations of STEM people out of jobs that the Indian and Asian engineers have taken on H1b visas. Close to 1 million foreigners doing work Americans want.
H1b send money back home, they donât buy homes, a major economic loss. Our college grads are defaulting on loans because they canât get jobs they trained for, and the taxpayers me and you are on the hook for these dead paper.
A flip flop by Ted would only help him. When your wrong you just say your wrong. There is no Stem shortage.
I have an out of work friend with 2 masters degrees consulting as a H1b programmer trainer. He says he knows lots of people free to do the same job but for 35 percent more money, its so dishonest what the Cheap Labor Express does to their fellow Americans.
No, or even to most Republicans. Usually she is a moosh. I couldn t believe what I was watching.
She was being deliberately obtuse and obnoxious. Either they re threatening every Fox employee with unemployment or offering them $1 million to take Ted out.
Another skirmish in the FOX “War On Everybody But Jeb”
And it was thought in the past that Greta had always been a fair-minded person — even though she is an attorney.
Not watching FOX any longer and failed to catch this. Sen Sessions, Lee, and Cruz have made clear that to miss this was not a life changing episode for Greta or Cruz. Shame on Greta who would have more luck in skinning a cat.
GO TRUMP
GO CRUZ
YOU WIN OR WE LOSE!!
Legalization status -> citizenship
Add Corker and TPA support...it doesn’t look encouraging.
Cruz continues to come across as a slimy lawyer...and I was a Cruz supporter in the beginning.
Now, I can’t trust him to be VP on Trump’s ticket.
I wish EBB would suck more money out of the Cheap Labor Express so that they could burn it up and get nothing for it.
Got to spill their blood money so they can’t oppose people like Bevin or whomever opposes McLame.
Let the GOPe bankrupt themselves, so they won’t have the capitol to pave the road for the Rinos.
Law school is the education major for those who want to earn a degree past the BA or BS. Apologies to the really smart teachers and lawyers.
It was painfully obvious that Greta has been appointed as the Murdoch attack dog to go after Cruz.
I know she is much smarter than she acted with that shoddy interview.
Intentionally being dense is a typical lawyer tactic.
But you trust Trump despite his history? Very inconsistent standard in my opinion.
I call her Van Stupid,
I watched this and even I understood Cruz!
This is why it’s best to not to try to be too smart by half when it comes to stuff like this.
Expecting people to understand inside baseball senate tactics when it could mean the difference between looking clever or hypocritical is not a strategy to depend on.
