So much for the establishment's efforts to stop Donald Trump. So far, nothing's working - not a thousand earnest think pieces or Jeb Bush's gripes in the latest debate. Not the wrath of news anchors and late-night hosts, who still can't resist booking Trump on their shows, but have started to get ornery during the interviews.
So maybe it's worth looking back to 1991 Louisiana, when establishment Republicans and Democrats banded together to defeat a popular, populist, problematic gubernatorial candidate named David Duke...
I spoke this week to some veterans of the anti-Duke battle, who told me they've been talking up this very idea, while noting that the parallels aren't exact. As hard as it is to divine Donald Trump's motivations - as much as his Bulworth act can sound like bigotry, and possibly is ...
Would a little more digging into Trump's past, plus a loud dose of Louisiana-style dark humor, accomplish what all of the hand-wringing hasn't?

That thing is better than an 0’Tesla....he he.
That was funny as H*ll. Don’t you agree?
I only wish I could thank the person who created that flawlessly hilarious meme.
:)
YMMV....
.....but so far, it’s d@m# good! ;-)
;D
I’m sorry goldilocks, but it’s pretty foolish of you to paint this as only Trump or the GOP estabs. I don’t buy your bullshit straw argument.
Wanna put a few thou on your predictions? I think it’s fantasy.
Weak point.
There are polls and there are polls.
The polls I've seen recently show some Republican candidates defeating Hillary, but not Trump.
Trump she beats by ten points.
Nice try though, troll.
grey_whiskers: "And as for your pic: if you wanted to titillate with an upskirt photo, you should've picked someone better looking."
No titillation intended, I expected you to imagine Hillary's face on Billie Jean, and hurl your lunch!
That's what the Left Media wants to see.
I totally agree, and in due time, after the nominations, they will turn on him in every way imaginable, mostly unfairly, in order to coronate Queen Hillary.
Mind, I'm not saying Trump can't beat them, perhaps he can, but I don't think we've yet seen the worst they can throw.
That's my point here.
I was just saying that Louisiana politics can be quite colorful. I saw a bumper sticker on Barksdale Boulevard one time that said, “Louisiana has the best politicians money can buy.”
Where would I send this to Trump so he gets it? Have no idea.
âLouisiana has the best politicians money can buy.â
There is probably a lot of truth to that; unfortunately, you need to multiply it by 50, (or 57). We certainly have the best democrats running as Republicans.

They could try the way they got rid of Huey Long—assassination.
Nobody needed David Duke and his Klan schtick in 1991.
Blacks weren’t bothering anybody, with the exception of the Bloods and Crips who were trying to exterminate each other in the cities. At its worst, gang activity in Louisiana never approached the level of Chicago or the coasts.
In the rural areas, southern folks people are laid-back, churchy, and get along fine. Louisiana blacks are descended from slaves who stuck around the plantations as sharecroppers after emancipation, because the tropical heat and slower pace suited them. The culture was/is rooted in African and Caribbean black culture. Jazz and delta blues are embraced by whites.
Plus, the Klan’s hate-trifecta is Blacks, Jews, and Catholics. So right there, he’d already lost south Louisiana below the I-10.
He was hanging around LSU when I was there in the 70s, trying to recruit for the Klan. He was a laughingstock even then.
Nobody took him seriously, ever, except the idiots like this author who still claim the Klan somehow “represents” the South.
Trump is addressing real threats. Terrorists really do want to kill us, the PC crowd really does want to tear up the Constitution. The Marxists and jihadists really do want blood in our streets. Our “leaders” really are emasculating our military and encouraging its infiltration by people who despise America.
So, no, Trump isn’t another David Duke.
Maybe if Vitter had had a bumper sticker that said
“Vote For The Adulterer. It’s Important!”
he would have won.
