Has José Salvador Alvarenga been reaching for the fava beans and chianti? The 36-year-old sailor survived at sea for more than a year after being cast adrift by a storm. But now the family of his fellow sailor, 22-year-old Ezequiel Córdoba, say the older man turned cannibal to survive. Alvarenga insists Córdoba died because he could not stomach the raw birds and turtle blood that were their only source of food. But Córdobaâs family are suing the Salvadorian fisherman for $1m for eating their relative.

Not discussed in the article is the book the survivor wrote. Those suing believe that they should be entitled to part of the deal.
I think it would be proper if the survivor offered them something but the book is not selling very well so there is no money.
This is good! Who is this?
Ok...is there any evidence he ate his companion...?
he’s being sued for a million...?
The article left that tidbit out...
Then out comes the man from Mars,
And you try to run but he’s got a gun,
and he shoots you dead and he eats your head,
And then you’re in the man from Mars.

This is not the first time someone ate another person from necessity.
The book, "Alive" is recommended reading for those who think that they would not be able to do so.
In the end the will to survive trumps most things.
Tell that to the Donner party.
Or you could tell that to the Dahmer party.
Any landlubbers on this thread need to read up on the story of the ESSEX and a slew of others. Cannibalism for sailors adrift is more common and better for society on the whole than a Mombasan Marxist Homosexual “Post-American” President. Get with the program: Nobody WANTS to eat a friend, but starvation can force... lots.
I would rather die than eat someone. That is just me. Maybe in their circumstances I would change my mind. I hope not.
Those rules don’t apply on the high seas.
OK. I should have known that. I watch detective shows. LOL.
Them too.
Reminds me of Progressives eating their own .... in fact, it is encouraged as part of the theory of evolution where only the strongest survive.
Yep... You’d change your mind. A lot has been written on this subject by very decent, upright, Christian men. I urge you to read Nathaniel Philbrick’s extraordinary book about the ESSEX, upon which Moby Dick was based.
(Moby Dick was based on the story of Whale Ship Essex, not on Philbrick’s book, of course.)

Yes and now it’s a new movie. My husband read the book so we may go see it.
