Outspoken pharmaceutical CEO Martin Shkreli arrested on securities fraud charges

Martin Shkreli, the former hedge fund manager vilified in nearly every corner of America for buying a pharmaceutical company and jacking up the price of a life-saving drug more than fiftyfold, was arrested Thursday on securities fraud charges unrelated to the furor.

The boyish-looking 32-year-old entrepreneur -- a relentlessly self-promoting figure who has called himself "the world's most eligible bachelor" on Twitter and recently plunged into the hip-hop world by buying an unreleased album by the group Wu-Tang Clan -- was in custody awaiting an appearance in federal court in Brooklyn.

He was charged in a seven-count indictment unconnected to the drug price hikes imposed by his company, Turing Pharmaceuticals. The charges instead involve his actions at another drug company, Retrophin, which he ran as CEO from 2012 to 2014.

Good. Let’s hope the charges stick and this @#$&!? goes to prison for a long time. And not one of those country club prisons either.

What fail. That Wu-Tang album was a single copy of an otherwise full-blown major-group album, sold for north of a million dollars. It’s the kind of thing you’d hope & expect would end up in a good investor’s hands, not some schlock head who gives price gouging a bad name.

I was hoping to be in before the “jailhouse rape is both funny and just” posts — but it’s been a busy day.

The best part is that his very recent fight with Wu-Tang made the chance he will be identified in jail almost 100%

I dont think the COs will be sympathetic to him either.

Dude is in DEEP S***

He's a lefty who donated to bernie sanders

According to a news article I just read, he donated $2,700 to Bernie Sanders, who rejected it, and gave the money an HIV clinic. I'm not a Bernie fan by any stretch, but good for him.

I think he donated to sanders after sanders had bashed him and called him the "poster boy for greed" or something like that. I think he was essentially trolling sanders, not supporting him.

More on the album here: http://www.bloomberg.com/features/2015-martin-shkreli-wu-tang-clan-album/

He owns the single copy of one of the most sought-after albums of all time, and the idiot hasn’t even listen to it yet.

OK, I’m not really enamored by Wu-Tang, but I recognize a real attempt at quality art, and it sucks that a rarity - a modern masterpiece - is owned by a jerk who just stuck it in a safe. Worse, the contract stipulates that it cannot be sold, only given away - so the jerk doesn’t have an incentive to share beyond his proven non-existent good nature. WAIT - there was an article recently that there IS a single “out” for this: that the Wu-Tang Clan, or Bill Murray (!), is allowed to steal it back ... hope they do, as there’s good reason now.
