RESIDENTS of a small American town have been absolutely skewered online and found themselves the target of global ridicule after expressing their fears about solar panels.
The good folk of Woodland, North Carolina, have rejected a proposal for a new solar farm amid concerns it would suck up all the energy from the sun.
The motion to build the solar farm near a power plant was rejected during a recent council meeting due to a bizarre array of fears and distrust expressed by locals, reports the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald.

Ask him to bring an alien to the next meeting.
Exactly my thoughts too. I’m sure there are a host of logical reasons to reject it and the reporters just pulled these quotes to make the townsfolk look like ignorant hicks.
You simply haven’t been listening!
They are not anywhere as dumb as those who say that the presence of solar panels--that intercept and absorb the sun's rays--will not affect the plant life underneath them.
I worked in solar technology developing materials for solar cells, and only a fool would say that you can grow crops or trees for renewable food and energy purposes underneath the panels. You can't. The only place fit for the panels is dry nonarable deserts. Use your brain.
Can’t be any worse than having an elected official publicly worried about an island tipping over because there might be too many people on it.
Years and years ago, Africa slammed into the North America and ran all the way up to Raleigh area.
Folks down east have been dumber than rocks ever since....
Thank you R-C. And nothing about the Shale formation(s) in N.C. that could fill the State coffers and peoples pockets, albeit the Shale industry is on taking it's hits @ $35 / barrel. IMHO they will get their break even point lower or the Saudi's will raise their price at some point. Smart North Carolinian's might be looking at that potential, not the flim-flam artist that sometimes hover over clean energy deals.
The town already has it’s “fair share” of the damn things. People were selling their land to solar farms and moving away, causing property values to fall. The rest of the stated reasons(comments), the reporter gleaned from the locals it wanted to hear from.
Dumber is a town in DC that thinks global warming is our greatest threat. Idiots to the left and right, and I’m stuck in the middle if all if it.
The statement by the idiot who said that the island was going to tip over if anymore people went there remains the stupidest thing I have ever heard anyone say!
Ahhhhhhh......
Ahem.
The bias against southerners is alive and well in the liberal media here and abroad. Itâs not like they thought the island of Guam would tip over with a few more sailors on it or anything...
ISTR that’s Hank Johnson. He replaced Cynthia McKinney in that congressional seat.
This is a case of Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber. Problem is figuring which is dumber.
Northampton County voted 65% for 0bama in 2008.
Northampton County voted 51% for 0bama in 2012.
They’re learning. Slowly. Unlike, say, New York City.
Sorry. That’s 55% for 0bama in 2008.
Some jerk from one of the big rooftop solar panel companies that was doing an installation here in the hood stoped at the door and started his sales pitch. Wouldn’t shut up and leave. I pulled my cellphone and pretended to dial 911 and report a trespasser and started to give his description. That got him moving. Arrogant former used car salesman I am sure.
