Robert DeNiro may be one of the best actors of his generation but when it comes to the hospitality industry, the star apparently has a lot to learn.
Nobu Hotel Manila, which is co-owned by the actor, chef Nobu Matshuhisa and movie producer Meir Teper, was named as the worst new luxury hotel of 2015 by Luxury Travel Intelligence (LTI), a members-only group that touts membership comprised of jetsetters and high net worth individuals, on their annual best and worst new hotels list.
DeNiro, who has worked with the lauded Japanese chef in his growing restaurant empire, was not able to translate the high-end eatery experience to the hotel at the City of Dreams complex in Manila, the Philippines, which officially opened in May.

Being in Manila doesn’t help.
The traffic at the moment is beyond incredible, into the surreal.
"I want an EQUAL NUMBER of blueberries in EVERY MUFFIN!"
Manila does not compute with High End Luxury. Just sayin’.
I might be sympathetic if DeNiro were not such an insufferable liberal twit
He is one of the greatest actors of all time. He is also a shrewd business person. Often some of the films he is most criticized for are films pioneered by his own production company - he knows his name on a billboard sells tickets and investors are happy to guarantee his quote to finance his films. Beyond film, he has many investments in real estate and in restaurants. I doubt very much he is involved in the day to day of any of them, especially the one in Manila.
Or else...No muffins for you!!
My company put us up in pretty ‘high end’ hotels, and when in Manila we were warned to stay in the hotel after dark.
"I don't see the problem."
Top of the Muffin to you!
I was there about 20 years ago. I stayed at the New World Hotel. Luckily I had a driver. I couldn't figure out the pattern of how traffic moved. There was a lot of horn honking. I asked the driver if the honks were a signal. He told me no.
He is a libtard but I just love him to death in the Deer Hunter.
Manila traffic has been like that for more than 30 years. I trudged the entire length of EDSA in the 80’s before there was a single flyover. That stretch through Cubao farmers market area must have contained 1 million cars. Plus, the fact that it only takes 3-4 cars to create a gridlock in Philiipines, due to the driving style there, made the traffic nightmarish. Abosolute chaos. But I never felt in danger, and never got such so much as a scratch on my car.
I was there in 2009 and I'd LOVE to drive Manila ... just once
I'm retired class A CDL ... I love the challenge.
He's one of the best actors of all time, yet it seems he's seriously stupid in most other areas. Because it does take some intellect to be a top notch actor. Perhaps he puts all of his brain power to that and has little if anything left over for other things.
THAT is about the size of it
I was acutely aware of the lack of junk cars on the road
everyone was driving dent free .. (at least what I saw)
When traffic was gridlocked on EDSA (and this was in the 1970s) I used to get off the bus/jeepney and walk home from High School down most of the way on EDSA.
And when I was working in Makati, on Buendia, the same. Rush hour was not worth trying to ride.
All those diesel fumes have made us resilient. No pollution can faze us.
But traffic now, as per the family, is in a different category. A few times on South Super EVERYONE left their cars and were walking down the highway between them, like in some zombie show.
