“While people expected high tides due to the season and the influence of a super moon, they were taken by surprise when a handful of streets in the lowest-lying neighborhoods stayed inundated for nearly a month with 16-inches (40-centimeters) of saltwater.”

Clue

I’ve been to the Keys at least a half dozen times, staying all the way from Key Largo to Key West (proper). Of course, we’ve driven the entire way from Miami, so we’ve seen every inch.

May God in heaven strike me dead if I am lying, but there are parts of the place where, I tell you, the road is no more than 6-8” above the water. And this began in the 1990’s.

But it is a great place; I love it. Everyone should go there once, seriously.

During Katrina, I did see one story from the French Quarter. People (tourists) were relaxing in bars, sipping drinks and sharing stories, waiting for the roads to open again, etc. It seemed evident to me that these century old buildings had been well placed, and were in no danger of flooding.

If anyone wants that answer go to East Las Olas Blvd, Ft. Lauderdale; east of Hendricks Isle and 23 Ave. Stand on the pavement and when a large truck passes feel the roadway bounce!
Also most underground utility manholes in Miami Beach, Hollywood and Lauderdale have large amounts of hydrogen sulfide(swamp gas) in them.

"But it is a great place; I love it. Everyone should go there once, seriously."

Reminds me of how virtually all of the most scenic places in our country have been overtaken by liberals.

Key Largo. Wonderful place
Does the Temple family still have the hotel there?

One visit to Key West is enough. Huge tourist trap.

Key west is overtaken by the homosexual sect of liberalism, they tend to do a spontaneous pride parade at sundown. I wonder if flooded roads are quelling that queer practice?

... Florida is sinking, and has been for 20,000 years.

When you live on the water at or almost at sea level, guess what, you are going to have flooding...... It’s like living on a river or a flood plain. But somehow people are shocked when they have flooding and want the government to bail them out.

You are right. NO ONE GO TO THE KEYS. It is terrible, ugly murky water, no fish, dead coral. Don’t even think about going fishing there over the next week. ;)

Huh? I’m not sure where you get your news, but the NO press has mentioned many, many times that the historical sections of the city didn’t flood. It is common knowledge that the areas like Lakeview, Midcity, most of Gentilly, the Ninth Ward, and NO East were all improperly developed by land speculators from generations past.

Surprised by street floods in the Florida Keys? Bless their hearts.

What next, snow in the mountains? Oh the humanity

Big government needs to tax people into poverty so they can stop continental drift and plate tectonics and stuff.
