There are at least 554 reasons to ask whether American children are safer from gun violence today than they were three years ago, when the unthinkable happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

That's how many kids under the age of 12 have died from gunshots- both intentional and accidental- since Adam Lanza stormed into the school in Newtown, Connecticut, on Dec. 14, 2012, and shot dead 20 children and six staff members, according to an NBC News analysis.

Aren't there any Freepers living in or near Sandy Hook who can confirm or deny that it really happened? A lot of children were involved surely someone on FR knows someone who knows.

Actually, it’s a LOT more than 100 per day. In 2011 the number was 1.06 million in the US. You’re off by a factor of 30 to 50 by now....

You're right. 100/day = 36500/year. I did the math too fast and too early in the morning. I think the grand total is some 50,000,000 in 50ish years so I should have started with a million per year and divided down.

14 happens to be the age at which gang membership peaks for those under 18. About 40% of total gang membership is under 18.

Beat me to it, but I would add that at least 500 were viable and ready for a diaper when they were stabbed, dismembered and tossed commingled with others into the nearest landfill.

It occurs to me that we live in a society where people will look the other way as babies are dissected and parted out for "medical research". People will pay any amount of other people's money for a boner pill or the promise of a bit more health for a little longer. We are just a small step away from being a candy house full of witches stealing the life force from children and then eating them.

And these same people want to preach to us about our right to have a gun. What a horror movie.

I know a lot of people who were more or less directly involved, and have paid very close attention. There are a lot of discrepancies and just plain weird stuff that make me question the official version of events. I don’t believe anyone who says they know for sure, 100% that it was all real.

I’d be interested to know how you can be certain without any hint of doubt that it was 100% real and the official story isn’t in any way fictionalized.

Your comment is correct for the statistic normally used for "children", but this is specifically "children under 12".

But jeez......in a nation of 300,000,000 with a comparable number of guns, "one every other day" is about 180 total deaths in this category per year. I suspect that "drowning in a bucket of mop water" kills more.

Sandy Hook. I'm tempted to call BS on Sandy Hook. Did it really occur? Dad of an alleged "victim" yukking it up in front of cameras before he realized the camera was on him. Never heard another follow-up story about the incident. That was just too weird. IMO, a contrived event to bring up gun control.

I'm going to tell you what I tell everyone else about Sandy Hook being a hoax. Tell that to Emilie Parker's family and friends. She had friends here in New Mexico, she went to Maggie Cordova Elementary. She was real, she was killed, and she is missed by those who knew and loved her.

I live in the area. I am currently less than 8 miles away from the site. I’m not off 1500 miles away in Florida.

A close friend and a coworker both had daughters in that hallway that morning. Both kids claim they heard nothing resembling gunfire.

Then there are the mysterous threats to the demolition workers.

I don’t know how anyone can deny all the oddities and be 100% certain as you appear to be. It can’t all be washed away simply as lousy reporting. Like the second shooter they actually showed in a camera view live that day. Hmmm.

How can you be certain she was actually killed in that classroom that day and wasn’t simply taken away?

I’m confident she was killed, but I am not certain, and I don’t know how anyone can be. Just because someone stops shwoing up on vacation 2500 miles away isn’t a great indicator of a death.
