What if the primaries end and,

Bush- 22%
Cruz-20%
Trump- 20%
Rubio-19%
Carson-15%
Others- 4%

Now do you understand a brokered convention?

Bush would have a plurality, but about 78% of the voters would take anyone but Bush.

I’m shocked and disappointed at the cults of personality that show up on FR.

I'm not informed regarding the bylaws/rules of the GOPs convention, but if three or four candidates wind up within a few percentage points of each other, and the plurality of one of the candidates is in the 20-30% range, then it's absolutely expected that coalitions will develop to ‘broker’ a nominee. That said, if one of the candidates has a plurality of 40-45%, and gets ‘brokered’ off the ticket, I think it would be very dismissive of the obviously large percentage of voters who voted for this candidate.

Good post. Just maybe your scenario will cause people to think just a little.

#24
of course what you show is correct
and would call for a brokered event
but that’s not the scenario being discussed
the thing being bandied about is doing that to a clear winner

We haven’t even had a single caucus or primary yet. It is beyond stupid to talk about brokered conventions at this point, because it makes it appear

1. Something is wrong, it’s a cluster f, we don’t know what to do! Get the lawyers, they’ll tell us what to do. In other words. INCOMPETENCE

2. They don’t trust their voters. and couldn’t care less what they want. The political and ruling class will tell us who our candidate will be.

3. They are intentionally self destructing the party.

4. All of the above.

I think that you aren’t talking about the same thing as what many of us are thinking.

But describing us as a cult of personality isn’t a good way to get us to listen.
