Cruz Applauded for Rejecting Ethanol Subsidies at Iowa Ag Summit (March 2015)
Breitbart ^ | 9 Mar 2015 | Sarah Rumpf

Posted on 12/12/2015 5:31:25 AM PST by justlittleoleme

Senator Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 97% (R-Texas) attended the Iowa Ag Summit over the weekend and stood alone among attendees in his outright rejection of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), the ethanol subsidies that have a significant impact on Iowa's agricultural economy. The Texas Senator appeared along with several other prospective 2016 Republican presidential candidates. Despite the obvious risk of opposing the RFS at an event sponsored by the agriculture industry in a critical early primary state, Cruz was unequivocal in voicing his opposition to the RFS and the crowd applauded his comments.

The Senator responded, "I support biofuels and ethanol. I think biofuels have a major role in the energy market and they're going to continue to have a growing role." However, Cruz continued, Washington should not be in the business of picking winners and losers. "When it comes to energy, I think we should have an all-of-the-above approach, but it should be driven by the market."

So... Trump attacks him and says he has this stance because of big oil (isn't that a Democrat attack line)

But what Cruz actually said about ethanol: ...I think we should have an all-of-the-above approach, but it should be driven by the market."

So a free market speech is what Trump is attacking?

Isn't the Free Market a conservative principle?

The government shouldn't be in the business of creating winners or losers.

So Trump is for government subsidies.....

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CNN..... Trump later called on a pro-ethanol activist with the group America's Renewable Future, who was given front-row seating Friday. The activist, who a group spokeswoman said was invited to the rally by the Trump campaign earlier this week, asked if Cruz's opposition to ethanol was because of his ties to "big oil."

"Yes it is," Trump replied.

How very conservative of Trump... attacking Cruz with a Democrat talking point.

Ted Fires a shot across the bow of the SS Trump and Trump responds by firing into its own deck.

How very conservative of Trump... attacking Cruz with a Democrat talking point.

He attacked Bush on Fannie and Freddie the same way.....he attacked Walker from the union thug play book.....my main problem with Trump is that he attacks FROM THE LEFT A HELLUVA LOT!!! What does this say about the man's beliefs? I think it's pretty clear. There's a knee jerk liberal still roaming around in Trump's head.

That's what children do.

Trump acts like a spoiled child at times.

He's willing to take an immediate gain (hopefully win IA) while sacrificing the future (how much national support can there be in supporting ethanol subsidies?)

Meanwhile, Cruz is consistent - no matter which state he is in.

I'm happy Trump is in the race because he has no tolerance for PC and his behavior has kindled the same response in other conservative candidates (e.g. Carson and Fiorina) but:
Cruz is the best candidate.

8 posts in and not a single “you’re bashing Trump. This is what the media wants. Cruz did a TPP thingy.” They must all still be sleeping.

I’d love to ping this, but this is old news. Although, I know Donald came out for ethanol a couple of days ago.

Anyone who thinks Trump is ‘really’ conservative has a big surprise coming.

That said, he has a lot of good approaches to the screwed up bloated government, immigration and defense. He is not hindered by big contributors from adopting the “America” concerns the majority of voters are very concerned about and he could very well roll the Primaries to a landslide of delegates.

Because of his ‘contributor independence’ or beholden to anyone, lots of people will not be pleased with his actual POTUS actions that might not actually reflect his campaign speeches.

The Donald will beat the hell out of anything dem and a good dose of castor oil might actually be good for us.

I’m not sure supporting ethanol subsidies is as important to Iowans as DC has tried to convince us. After all, Iowa has tried repeatedly and failed repeatedly to impose their own statewide ethanol mandate.

What you say is true and there's evidence to that effect.

To pile on a bit, Trump's move in Iowa (against Cruz) demonstrates his tendency toward reactionary judgment — again.

That might be a good quality for a bloviating businessman but it's not a quality you want in a President.

OTOH -
Ted Cruz is thoughtful, circumspect and at the same time decisive.

I agree. If he should win in Iowa after taking on the Ag subsidy debacle, he can win all over.

BTW, the Snowbird farmers from Iowa around here all wish the dam thing would end.

The first chore for a candidate is to win the Iowa Caucuses then
it’s on to the Nov. election. The question may be who is the best
GOP candidate able to win nationwide and support that one.

In the last 10 Presidential elections Iowa has voted for:

DEM .. 6 (88, 92, 96, 00, 08, 12)
GOP .. 4 (76, 80, 84, 04)
