After a week of tension between the two Republican presidential candidates, front-runner Donald Trump took a shot at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Friday, saying that âoil companies pay him a lot of money.â
âWith ethanol [Cruz has] gotta come a long way,â Trump said in Des Moines, Iowa. "Heâs right now for the oil. But I understand if oil pays him a lot of money, heâs gotta be for oil. Right?â âBut Iâm with you,â Trump told his supporters, noting he toured ethanol plants in Iowa last month.
"If Ted Cruz is against ethanol, how does he win in Iowa," Trump asked.
The billionaire businessman also slammed Cruz as a copycat.
âThe one guy that is doing pretty good with me in Iowa is Ted Cruz,â Trump said. "Everything I say, he agrees with me. No matter what I say.â
He later seemed to take a shot at Cruz's background.
âI do like Ted Cruz, but not a lot of evangelicals come out of Cuba,â Trump said. âBut I like him nonetheless.â

Oil is evil now according to TRUMP ..
Might as well ban oil now.
Let’s hope not, he’s by far the best choice.
i wonder if Trump is upset Cruz never sought out donations from him when he was a big player in the donor class...
Trump allowed himself to be goaded into attacking Cruz, I hope this doesn’t give the RINO the lane they have been looking for.
1. Of course Cruz takes every cent he can from “big oil”. BFD.
2. Trump’s internals must say it’s time to clip Cruz’s wings.
According to the records:
Contributions by Industry for Ted Cruz
Oil & Gas
Total: $952,382
Individuals: $773,382
PACs: $179,000
He’s taking almost a similar amount from Lawyers & Law Firms

Hmmm...
Cruz drop 7 points? Could be. But it won’t be over ethanol subsidies - all candidates have been pretty clear on their stance on that for awhile now.
Trump continues to have an inconsistent record of conservatism.
That will be an interesting Debate. Both of them agree on a whole lot of things and they seem to get along, for now.
Can’t wait to see it, I Support Cruz and I like Trump.
The only question will come down to Electability in the General.
So far it appears that Trump is gaining support from Groups that Cruz isn’t able to crack. I am quite surprised by Trump’s resiliency, but I know first hand from Family and Friends that Trump has appeal outside of Conservatives and Republicans like us.
Just my $.02, your Mileage may vary.
Crap...Trump///Cruz are making me bi-polar. lol
I like most of each but neither are perfect!
Nope. Ted Cruz does not pander to anyone. He has the battle scars in the US Senate to prove it.
Donald Trump on the other hand...by his own admission, has engaged in bribery and corruption in New York City and elsewhere with Democrats in power to advance his business interests. No one panders like Trump. And oh, by the way, Ted Cruz will cream him in Iowa. Let’s see how his support holds up after that shall we?
You know what I’d say if I were Cruz: “I like Donald Trump, but that’s ridiculous and it’s false”..”Not only do I not support subsidies for Big Oil, I don’t support them for any energy industry”!
SHUT IT DOWN (As ridiculous..as what Mr. Trump is saying is) but politely and firmly too!!
NO, he’ll raise and stay on top in Iowa.
Fail (that will).
He never said anything about subsidies, just that ethanol is a renewable resource.
I agree with your assessment of character, but you stated it originally as questioning Trump. Just like Cruz did with ‘judgment’. In a less than upfront way so you could wiggle out of it? ;)
Trump has been very upfront about his donations. He has donated to all sides. It was a business thing. Not being a billionaire needing political concessions to get goals accomplished, I just donate to the candidate that is closest to my opinions, but he’s playing in a different ballgame. For example, in NYC in the 70’s he got unheard of tax exemptions - one building got a 40 year waiver. I’m sure he donated to every politician there was to make that happen, democrat or Republican. It’s ugly that our country is so corrupt but he was playing the game with the corrupt politicians to get what he wanted done. So he knows from the other side the power of donors and decided to be self-funding to avoid that. He could have taken donations and saved himself a billion or two.
Inevitable. Trump goes after #2, whoever it is.
Let all remember also Cruz wife works (now on leave o help Cruz) Goldman Sach who got MILLION if stimulus TAX$$$, was in the freddie and fannie mess along with Gov house Insurance mess. Goldman Sach paid fines for that mess. Was in new for long timeâ¦..
Nope. Cruz will go into professor mode and put people to sleep in minutes while Trump will keep us entertained with his impressive lack of details.
No way Cruz wins that.
