As President Obama continues to push forward with his insistence that the U.S. continue full steam ahead with welcoming an increasing influx of Syrian refugees — national security, will of the people be damned — one state is taking concrete action to block these plans. Who else but Texas, led by Senator — and GOP presidential candidate — Ted Cruz and Governor Greg Abbott.
Introducing legislation that allows the governor of a state to reject the resettlement of a refugee in that state without adequate assurance that the refugee does not present a security risk, the move amounts to a revolt of sorts against the Obama administration’s plans.
Via The Right Scoop:
Senator Ted Cruz and Texas Governor Abbott laid out their plan to block Obama's schemes to resettle Syrian immigrants to Texas.
A local Fox News affiliate describes their plan:
Governor Greg Abbott and Senator Ted Cruz held a joint press conference in Washington, D.C. to introduce the State Refugee Security Act of 2015. They say the act empowers states to ensure the safety and security of its citizens by blocking the resettlement of refugees within its borders.
In a press release, Sen. Cruz says the State Refugee Security Act will amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to permit the governor of a state to reject the resettlement of a refugee in that state unless there is adequate assurance that the refugee does not present a security risk.
Sen. Cruz's legislation will require the federal government to notify a state at least 21 days before a refugee is resettled there. Also, it prohibits the resettlement of a refugee in a state if the governor certifies that the federal government has failed to provide adequate assurance that the refugee does not present a security risk to the state.
Some 30 governors across the country have come out in support of halting or pausing the resettlement of Syrian refugees in light of known security concerns. And, of course, leading GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump is making huge waves with his call for a complete and total block of refugees — until we can figure out how to properly vet them.
Yet the Obama administration continues aggressively to pursue its plans, even in the wake of a striking exclamation point on this issue in the form of the San Bernardino terrorist Tashfeen Malik. As Fox News reports, Malik was one of just 519 Pakistanis allowed into the country last year specifically to marry a U.S. citizen. Her path to the United States has raised warning flags on the U.S. government’s immigration vetting practices after she was identified as one of two attackers in California.
Malik managed to slip through among just 519. And yet Obama is insisting on upping the Syrian refugee influx by tens of thousands.
Thank goodness we have strong leadership in the form of Senator Ted Cruz and Governor Greg Abbott to stand up to the federal government to protect American citizens — since the Obama White House seems to have abandoned that post.
Our boy keeps pushing, against all odds.
Pray for Ted Cruz.
Cruz has actions behind his words
Brilliant use of bandwidth.
HEY ! bunch of copycats !
Trump had the idea first !
.. Do I need to say it ? Sarcasm.
Yep, I'll pray that he gets elected VP next year so he doesn't lead another government shutdown. It would be nice to have a Republican Governor elected in Virginia in 2017.
= :^) thx
Ted Cruz showing leadership yet again.
Amen. I will be sure to keep him in prayer.
Cruz leads. Others follow.
It’s a pattern.
Cruz leads. Others follow.
It's a pattern.
So, I guess Texas will have to build a wall around the entire State and check peoples “papers” before they enter?
That is the only way you could enforce this.
Sounds good but not a solution.
Laughable, and I will happily vote for Cruz if he is the nominee, but this is a joke.
That shutdown effort actually caused more Republicans to be elected. You did notice?
Further, it doesn’t seem to matter if Republicans are elected in many instances. Look at McConnell, Ryan, McCain, Graham, Capito, Christie, Rubio, Alexander, etc. etc. etc.
There are Republican s with 20% CR ratings. My Democrat rep. has a 20% CR rating!
Ted Cruz is a proven Conservative. We know where he stands. We have record of his votes—some I didn’t like, but nobody’s perfect, except me of course. :)
We need to elect Conservatives—not just Republicans.
