One of James Taranto's tongue-in-cheek tropes at his Best of the Web Today column is "We Blame George Bush." In a recent example, "We Blame George W. Bush" was placed over a headline reading: “Slipping Into a Food Coma? Blame Your Gut Microbes.†As Wikipedia describes it, the trope "is a play on the perceived tendency for many of his detractors to lay the blame for pretty much anything" on Bush.
And lo and behold, from today's Morning Joe comes a real-life example of the phenomenon. Mika Brzezinski blamed Donald Trump's proposal to ban all Muslims from the US, on in part—you guessed it—George W. Bush. Mika argued that foreign policy blunders not just by the Obama administration but "by the George W. Bush administration" created feelings that Trump is tapping into with his proposal. For Mika to reach back to blame Bush for Trump's proposal, when even liberals praise him for going out of his way, for example, six days after 9-11, to declare "Islam is peace," etc. is something between outrageous and hilarious.

Mr. Mercat was watching this when I got up. They were selling roller cases on Fox and Friends. They kept calling him Donald. Who knows, maybe they asked him what they should call him. But I think that they should have called him Mr. Trump. The whole thing was annoying. He did get to make his argument until they told him that he had to listen to and answer their questions. ahhh no he doesn’t.

The Left took a more preemptive approach to the failings of Barack Who-Sane?? Obama. They say ‘Thanks Obama’ for piddling crap lik missing a traffic light or not getting the french fries in their to-go order at a drive through.
They still won’t put the blame on B.uttH.urtt Obama for things like their rising healthcare insurance costs. They don’t understand or unwilling to face that they STILL don’t have the full price yet (penalties or purchase). Sticker shock much?

If the left would put a micron of effort in finding sensible solutions as they do assigning blame, people might take them more seriously.

I did catch that. Interesting that Donald came back after break and continued to talk and take questions for another half hour. The entire panel gave him props for that.
