An Obama administration proposal to have some nonprofit charities report the Social Security numbers of donors giving at least $250 in one year is raising concerns about security, government overreach and another episode of IRS targeting. âThere´s a big caution here. There´s a big yellow light that should be flashing for a couple of reasons,â Illinois Republican Rep. Peter Roskam tells Fox News. âNumber one, the IRS has not demonstrated its capacity to hold this type of information from confidentiality and a security point of view.â The change would impact organizations that fall into the 501 (c)(3) category, which includes

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. And oh by the way, $250 / year is less than $5 per week if one goes every Sunday.
We are on to you, Jean Paul Ludwig !
Your idea makes a lot of sense to me. If Bath House has a phony SSN, well that’s good enough for me to do the same.
They’ve already got donors’ SS#s if they claim the charitable deduction on their tax returns.
Watch donations hit rock bottom.
If it is an anonymous cash gift and the church/organization has no record of the donor, it doesn’t apply.
It is not only an identity theft concern, but makes it easier to get donor lists for nearly every non-profit of every donor who matters.
Ya know that was one of the many things that really struck me back when, I don’t know if it was you, David, or Red Steel on the big thread, that disclosed one of his tax schedules with that number showing clearly and it just didn’t go anywhere like so many other “truths” about this guy. I just hope we find out before my time has come on this earth.
No. The IRS wants churches to collect the SSNs. Now, the church sends you a yearly receipt, which you use when you file. The church never sees the SSN.
I understand that and, like you, oppose it.
However, I was just saying that the IRS already knows what you donate if you claim the deduction.
In a good world, I would assume this is a way for the IRS to crack down on those who may falsely claim charitable deductions. I believe that now proof is only required in case of audit. Sounds like they’re trying to treat churches/congregants like they do financial institutions/depositors.
But this is not a good world, and I don’t trust anything this government does. No way should churches have to collect or report private information to the IRS.
Theyt altered the SS records and gave the deceased Ludwig
a new SS number and awarded Obama the old one. It was a switch....just to debunk the matter for Obama.
Just say no.
It’s optional. Therefore take the NO option.
No charity or church will refuse to take your money (and give you a proper tax deduction receipt) for refusing to give them your SSN.
According to the IRS, this is supposed to be a benefit to the TAXPAYER (in case you lose your receipt and are audited). Of coure, they’re lying, ‘cause their lips are moving. But still — just say no and you’re good. Oh, and save your documentation.
They are also setting churches up as identity theft treasure troves. The liability for the church is staggering.
Having been a treas. for a 501c4 can tell you it is arduous at best to keep track of donors by name alone, as they often are donating cash. The church offering collection (alms)plate has cash regardless of attempts to use numbered envelopes x-ref’d with a communicant.
This is simply a power grab. Someone claims a charitable gift of any amount 250 or over and IRS needs proof— the burden of proof is on the claimant, not the recipient.
“We need the names and addresses of the lawyers of the administration. Two can play at this..”
No, we need their social security numbers. See how fast we get them.
So, if we will not give the church our social security numbers, what will the church do - reject the donations?
IRS and EPA ought be shut the hell down and its employees put in prison.
I “propose” that the IRS can KMA.
“.I will make one up or use Obamas stolen SS number”
Great idea! Let’s all use the same number.
