Marine Le Pen got a huge boost in France’s first round of regional elections this week, drawing upwards of 40% support in the northern region of Nord-Pas-de-Calais-Picardie. Showing some unusual restraint after the initial results were reported, she said her party would treat the result with humility and a profound sense of responsibility. In the broader sense, her “far right” National Front party did far better across all 13 regions than in recent outings. (Mashable)
France’s far right National Front won more support than any other party in the first round of regional elections Sunday, according to polling agency projections, in a new boost for Marine Le Pen’s anti-immigration strategy and a new blow to President Francois Hollande’s Socialists.
The projections put National Front candidates on top so far in six of France’s 13 newly drawn regions. But Sunday’s voting was only a first round, and some mainstream voters may steer away from far right candidates in the decisive Dec. 13 runoff…
Voters are choosing leadership councils for the regions, and had the choice of several parties in the first round. Polling agencies Ifop, OpinionWay and Ipsos projected that the National Front won between 27 and 30 percent support nationwide.
If we try to make this story strictly about Marine Le Pen and the personality politics which infect French elections the same way they do here in the United States we’re not really doing justice to these results. The National Front garnered roughly one third of the vote across the regions, but Sarkozy’s conservative Republicans party took another 27% at the same time. That puts the tally in at least the high fifties for the more nationalist oriented movements while Francois Hollande’s socialists (who currently control nearly everything) took barely a quarter. That’s a huge shift.
For those of us who aren’t quite so familiar with French politics, here’s a fairly good thumbnail description of the National Front:
The National Front is a socially conservative, and nationalist, right to far-right political party in France. Its major policies include economic protectionism, a zero tolerance approach to law and order issues, and anti-immigration. A eurosceptic party, the FN has opposed the European Union since its creation in 1993.
Le Pen speaks passionately about not only the threat posed by massive numbers of immigrants, among which are found terrorists, but of the need to preserve French culture which she feels may be on the verge of being subsumed by Muslim minorities. Her party has opposed the open border policies of the EU and calls for tougher, more military style capability for their police and intelligence agencies to deal with the existential threat. Does any of that sound familiar?
Here in the United States we’re not having any national elections at the moment, but Barack Obama’s approval ratings when it comes to handling ISIS and terrorism in general are in the tank. Americans are reacting to terrorist attacks on our own soil just as the French are after the horror show in Paris. At some point we have to begin asking ourselves how the Left managed to coopt the term “nationalism” and turn it into a dirty word. Frankly, we could all do with a bit more nationalism and significantly less multi-culturalism if we hope to keep our heads above water in the wars to come.
If you want to track this story in France, these were just the first round of elections. Each party gaining more than 10% of the vote in the 13 regions will go into a runoff election on December 13th.
Would like to see likewise here in the US.
Gallic Ping.
France taking the lead. There are so many of our greatest generation who are being heartbroken in their last days...
Trouble. It’s past time for electoral annihilation.
It's past time for electoral annihilation.
This is just one regional election. I’d like to see this happen NATIONWIDE.
Hereâs the problem with the West â WE HAVE FORGOTTEN HISTORY (MAYBE ITâs BECAUSE IT HAS NOT BEEN TAUGHT PROPERLY FOR SEVERAL GENERATIONS )
This is all factually (and historically) correct â and verifiable:
In 732 A.D. the Muslim Army, which was moving on Paris , was defeated and turned back at Tours , France , by Charles Martell.
In 1571 A.D. the Muslim Army/Navy was defeated by the Italians and Austrians as they tried to cross the Mediterranean to attack southern Europe in the Battle of Lepanto.
In 1683 A.D. the Turkish Muslim Army, attacking Eastern Europe , was finally defeated in the Battle of Vienna by German and Polish Christian Armies.
This crap has been going on for 1,400 years and half of the politicians donât even know it.
If these battles had not been won, we might be speaking Arabic and Christianity could be non-existent; Judaism certainly would not exist.
Reflecting:
A lot of Americans have become so insulated from reality that they imagine that America can suffer defeat without any inconvenience to themselves.
Pause a moment and reflect back.
These events are actual events from history. They really happened! Do you remember?:
1. In 1968, Bobby Kennedy was shot and killed by a Muslim male.
2. In 1972, at the Munich Olympics, athletes were kidnapped and massacred by Muslim males.
3. In 1972, a Pan-Am 747 was hijacked and eventually diverted to Cairo where a fuse was lit on final approach. Shortly after landing it was blown up by Muslim males.
4. In 1973, a Pan-Am 707 was destroyed in Rome , with 33 people killed, when it was attacked with grenades by Muslim males.
5. In 1979, the US embassy in Iran was taken over by Muslim males.
6. During the 1980âs a number of Americans were kidnapped in Lebanon by Muslim males.
7. In 1983, the US Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up by Muslim males.
8. In 1985, the cruise ship Achille Lauro was hijacked and a 70-year old American passenger was murdered and thrown overboard in his wheelchair by Muslim males.
9. In 1985, TWA flight 847 was hijacked at Athens , and a US Navy diver trying to rescue passengers was murdered by Muslim males.
10. In 1988, Pan-Am Flight 103 was bombed by Muslim males.
11. In 1993, the World Trade Center was bombed the first time by Muslim males.
12. In 1998, the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed by Muslim males.
13. On 9/11/01, four airliners were hijacked; two were used as missiles to take down the World Trade Centers and of the remaining two, one crashed into the US Pentagon and the other was diverted and crashed by the passengers. Thousands of people were killed by Muslim males.
14. In 2002, the United States fought a war in Afghanistan against Muslim males.
15. In 2002, reporter Daniel Pearl was kidnapped and beheaded by - you guessed it - a Muslim male. (Plus two other American journalists were just recently beheaded ).
16. In 2013, the Boston Marathon Bombing resulted in 4 Innocent people, including a child, being killed plus 264 people injured by Muslim males.
No Obama, I really donât see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you?
So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people.
So, ask yourself âJust how stupid are we???â
Absolutely No Profiling! They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the Obamaâs security detail, 85-year-old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winner and former Governor Joe Foss, BUT.......leave Muslim Males alone lest we be guilty of profiling.
And now Obama wants us to import 10,000 more ârefugeesâ even with Homeland Security telling us that ISIS has targeted the refugee program to infiltrate our country.
France of course, is probably a lost cause.... they have over 6 million Muslims, most un-assimilated.
Ask yourself, Just how stupid are we? Have the American people completely lost their minds or just their Power of Reason???
As the writer of the award winning story Forrest Gump so aptly put it, âStupid Is As Stupid Does.â
WAKE UP AMERICA !!! It is critical that you vote in every election for individuals who will uphold the U. S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.
This will echo across Europe and may even boost Trump. Venezuela will impact Latin America.
But I don't see Hollande playing the role of Martel, or Jean de Vallette, anytime soon.
Much ado about nothing. The FN received about 28% of the vote nationwide, which means that 72% of the French electorate are still bent on committing cultural suicide.
The socialists and the “mainstream” conservatives (like the Dems and GOPe) always team up in the runoff elections to defeat the FN. Whether a region or two goes FN makes little difference, since in the crucial 2017 Presidential contest, if FN makes the runoff, LePen would have to increase her vote % from 28% in the regionals to 50% plus one in the nationals. It’s hopeless.

They would work with one or more left-wing judges to simply declare the difficult election results invalid.
If you’re referring to WWII, Korean War and other good men and women from that Era - yes, you are correct.
The ones I know are Apalled at how the pResident impostor has made a mockery of the greatest generation’s sacrifice.
RE: “There are so many of our greatest generation who are being heartbroken in their last days.”
Excellent work. I was thing of doing the same thing. Thanks for saving the time! ;)
I don’t believe this is accurate. While current socialist president is horrible then Sarkozy and his party (now called Republicans) are not as bad and he really hasn’t had a chance to show how he would have handled the recent Muslim invasion.
I don’t like the FN at all. It rose because of the failures of the other two big parties, but FN is filled with dodgy opportunists who have never been in charge of anything and coming from the position of never having had any responsibility and power allows them to promise the sky and stars to their prospective voters without having any idea how to deliver or even what governing really means.
You forgot that Muslim males in the 1790’s were attacking our shipping in the Mediterranean, and enslaving the crews of the ships.
When Marine's dad ran it, it was filled with Holocaust minimizers and other Jew-hating trash, such as, well, her father. Sarkozy talked a good game when he was in power before -- his election victory was in no small part due to his tough talk on how to handle the "yoots" who were at that time (probably still are) burning tires and entire cars in the no-go zones in the purpose-built immigrant suburbs of Paris. Instead, he did very damned little. The snap-back to the Socialists was a massive repudiation of the UMP, such that, after avoiding bogus lawfare prosecution by the PS, he wound up changing his party's name to shed that loser image of the UMP.
He's probably the best choice, as Hollande's response to the Paris slaughter looks expeditious at best. But what really will Sarkozy do differently? We dont't have to worry about or speculate about what the FN would do, because the FN ain't getting the power, period, no matter how much support it gets from Vlad. Retreat from the UE is actually less likely now, in France, than it was before the mass-murder. There's a definite groundswell against muzzies and immigrants in general, but what results remains to be seen.
OTOH, looke what happened in the Netherlands -- Geert Wilders' party managed to not join the new ruling coalition, but holds the cards because it *should* have been asked to form the new ruling coalition, wasn't, everyone in the Netherlands knows it, and his moderate hand at the tiller means his party is the only thing propping the ruling coalition in place, and he and his party are looking like the only reasonable people in Dutch politics.
Another contrast is UKIP -- Farage, like Wilders, echoes the Pooty Line in Europe and complains about the Turks, but UKIP got its ass handed to it in the recent UK elections, while the Tories swept to an historic victory and outright majority. UKIP has probably peaked, including its barely effectual presence in the EU parliament (the Euroskeptics from various EU member nations have been effectively sidelined), and Labour is destroying itself by repeatedly doubling down from one radical leader to one even worse (they're on their third, at least). Even the UK comedians, who swing left to say the least, really didn't like Brown, really really didn't like Miliband, and seem to view Corbyn as so bad that they no longer dare to criticize him or Labour itself.
France's Socialists withdraw from three regional votes to block far right: The socialists are pulling out of races in regions where they came in a distant third, and telling their voters to vote for Sarkozy's party, so Le Pen doesn't win.
I don’t understand what you say about Wilders and his PVV. They are 12/150 in the House and 9/75 in the Senate. That is a pretty low number of seats to expect to be a kingmaker as it would have taken them and 2 more partners from the current opposition to kick out the PvdA in the House and the Senate is lost for any right leaning government anyway.
Of course I might be very wrong as my interest in Netherlands politics has been very casual. Could there have been a better coalition with PVV in it?
You can’t directly compare proportional representation Netherlands result with majoritarian UK and France anyway. PVV has much less popular support than either UKIP or FN.
