Shares of America's leading gunmakers were notably higher for a second day on Monday.
In late-morning trading:
Smith & Wesson shares were up about 5%, and jumped to an eight-year high. Year-to-date, they've rallied 110%.
Sturm, Ruger & Company shares were up 4% in morning trade. Year-to-date, they're up 64%.
Meanwhile, the broader stock market was lower, with the Dow and the benchmark S&P 500 losing about 1% following a surge in trading on Friday.
Last Wednesday, a couple shot and killed 14 people in San Bernardino, California, in what the FBI is investigating as an act of terrorism.
In a primetime address on Sunday night, President Obama, reacting to Wednesday's shooting and the broader terrorism threat, said the US should make it harder for possible mass shooters to gain access to guns.
And on Monday, the US Supreme Court made its first ruling on a gun-rights case since 2010, according to Bloomberg. It declined to hear a challenge to a federal appeals court decision that banned residents of a Chicago suburb from having semi-automatic assault weapons and large-capacity magazines.
As we've noted before, any indication that guns may be harder to buy in the future makes it more attractive to get guns right now.
So there you go.

Sales ass-ociate of the year for the 7th year in a row. Der lyin’ king.

Barack Hussein Obama. Gun salesman of the decade and most likely the 21st Century
Now it's gonna be...
This I gotta see
Does it come with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time?
Already did it. : )
its true that RGR is up 64% on the year...but that is also due to the fact that it started the year pretty low.....just an additional data point.
It’s two year high is almost 85
Pretty much too late to trade as they’ve already surged for the past few days. They’ll retrace a bit at this point. I should have known better and switched my money in as soon as this shooting happened.
Yessir, my first thought, too.
Resistance at $59 and $65. Already run up for the past month. Would you buy at this point?
I just want to know where to get .22 LR ammo at pre crazy prices.
Over 200,000 guns were purchased the day after Thanksgiving this year. Looks like this will be a Guns & Ammo Christmas, something everyone needs.
Change calibers and start reloading.
9mm brass is practically free, get lead, powder and primers while they are still available. 9mm carbines start at about $200.
Are they biting people’s shoulders or something?
I’m loaded up on 9mm. I need .22 LR for my suppressed 10/22s, Norrell 22 SMG, etc.
