The World Trade Organization ruled Monday that Canada and Mexico can slap more than $1 billion in tariffs on U.S. goods in retaliation for meat labeling rules it says discriminated against Mexican and Canadian livestock.
At issue were U.S. labels on packaged steaks and other cuts of meat that say where the animals were born, raised and slaughtered.

Aren’t free trade treaties great? I wonder what kind of wonderful things we can expect fron TPP?
Nobody gets to label my meat.
It certainly will be full of surprises.
I want to know.
Mexico....keep it...
Sounds like a story that will drive Trump’s numbers up again.
Waiting for the FRee traitors to show up and shout this down in 3, 2, 1.....
They can only do it with a microchip.
Nice loss of sovereignty here. /spit
Now a real President would retaliate and tell the WTO to get bent.
PS I want to know where my beef is from, but whether or not to label should be up to the producers.
How does the WTO feel about Europe labeling products from Israel to facilitate boycotts?
Walmart will often have a ground meat labels that reads something like ...... “Product of USA, Canada, or Mexico”
Which means I am not buying. People are fools to buy products with such labels.
” ...... “country of origin” labeling law put Canadian and Mexican livestock at a disadvantage.”
Unbelievable! Amazing you cannot put Made in USA on a product anymore.
If Mexico would clean up their slums, it wouldn’t be a problem for them.
We hunt and fish for a large part of our meat, We always know where that comes from. If this labeling law is repealed by the Republican lackeys of meat importers,
US ranchers and farmers ought to operate co-op packing houses that market domestically raised meat to consumers here. We would gladly pay more for meat that was produced in the USA.
Looks like Israel is considering suing the EU for labeling.
A number of right-wing law professors are urging Israel to take legal action against the European Union. The most prominent are international law professors Avi Bell from Bar-Ilan University and Eugene Kontorovich of Northwestern University.
The two wrote a legal position paper for the Jerusalem-based rightist institute Kohelet Policy Forum and passed it on to the various ministries. They have also met with Shaked and Erdan several times in recent months.
Bell and Kontorovich write in their paper that one of the WTO’s main principles is non-discrimination between member states. In other words, products from one country must be treated the same as products from another country. The European Union decided to label settlement products, but no such decision was made regarding products from other conflict areas, such as Moroccan products from Western Sahara or Turkish products from north Cyprus. This constitutes discrimination against Israel and breaches the WTO’s principles, the two law professors contend.

My thoughts, exactly!
Chairman Pat Roberts, bought off. Making sure you cant know the source of your food.
I can be told if the vegetables came from Mexico, but not the meat? This is a joke, right?
