From the pages of the San Francisco Chronicle (political kissing cousin to the New York Times and Washington Post):

Before jetting off to Paris for this week's star-studded global warming conference, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and her staff finally hit upon a plan to solve her first local environmental crisis — how to stop coal from being shipped through the Port of Oakland.

The answer: Declare coal a health hazard.

She really needs to be more specific about which coal is the really really dangerous one. Uh, and just what about the climate conference requires her presence? Is she presenting a thesis or something? Or is it the Chardonay.

Mucking about with dock workers’ jobs does not sound like a political career-enhancing move to me. Hope she enjoys lots of wine and cheese over there since she might not make a return appearance on the Oakland taxpayers’ dime.

She drove a steam-powered car during the campaign.

A lead pencil (graphite) is a form of coal.

AND you can file it to a sharp point.
And stab with it.
And buy more than 10 in a pack at WalMart.

Hey this chick is onto something.

She’s revealing her true watermelon intentions. Its not that they are burning this coal in Oakland, instead it is being exported through Oakland (I’m sure the domestic market is shrinking). Her only intention has to be bankrupting the American coal industry...the one energy sector in which the US is the ‘king’, and she wants to shut it down.

Not surprising, the global warming nut jobs have declared CO2 an atmospheric pollutant thus basically want to implement a tax on air.

Green on the outside...red on the inside. Wasn’t a collard greens and fried chicken joke.

So basically Mayor, you want poor people (who you claim to want to “help” on your terms of course) to live without electricity and heat?

Tell it to Mexico, Brazil and the rest of the 3rd World.

Libs are genocidal!

After several years of overseas assignment, my folks and I sailed into Oakland back in 1961. It looked damned good to me back then.

The dirty secret is that while California piously declares almost no coal derived electrical generation is present within the state, California based utilities have agreements or partial ownership of coal fired plants in neighboring states which supply perhaps 25% of usage. Hydroelectric across the northern border supplies perhaps another 25% of the total.

Much like current electric cars offer displaced generation of pollution away from the point of use, the state touts it’s green credentials to inhabitants ignorant where their electricity originates... “The golden state of hypocrisy”.

My son used to make his teachers mad by reminding everyone where the power comes from to run electric cars.
