Democrats ramped up their push Thursday for more firearms restrictions even as alarm over recent mass shootings, including one linked to Islamic terrorism, fueled calls for citizens to play a greater role in their own protection.
The Senate defeated two gun control amendments, one that would have expanded background checks for guns purchased online and at gun shows, and another that would have prohibited suspected terrorists from buying firearms.

Seems to me it ought to be everyone can carry, and only selected people can’t.

wow iam surprised our guys defeated these. the real sneaky’one was the terror list one, because once you are placed’on this you cannot get taken off. you have no idea why - except political or religious - ie white conservative chritian - and you cant be taken off as there is no process to be taken off, no appeals process. wed have all our houses raided before you even knew we were on the fuching roundup list.

The only time they were dumb enough to attack an area of armed citizens the Islamic Terrorists were nailed by a cop outside of the Texas facility.

No, we're not. That term has pretty much lost its meaning. Our government thinks more of illegals than its own citizens.
Personally, I think it's wise for states to license trained, law abiding (no felons), citizenry to carry a weapon in public. It's the one area were the term 'citizen' still has meaning. I don't believe illegal foreign hadji terrorists or even home grown felons should be allowed to carry a weapon on our city streets.
It's why the CCW program has worked so well and why those who do carry deserve the reputation they now enjoy and why law officers make statements like the one of which this article is about. There are many what-ifs and open-carry advocates - but basically I still feel we need to maintain training and verification to carry a weapon in public, even in the case of open carry.
My 2 cents on the matter and I will add: It works, so let's not break it for now.
I have no problem with that. Even when I wrote what I did, I expected to get some reasoned push-back. When all is said and done, I agree with you.
It’s the principle of the thing. I live in Los Angeles, and you just can’t get a CCW here.

Decided to get out while I could. LOL
