Rivers belong to whoever can keep them, so lighten up Mexico will not take your river, no matter where a fence is built.
Ineffective. Your plan leaves out the Claymores...
First off, I'm against anything that infringes upon my 2nd amendment rights -- and that includes mandatory training / indoctrination requirements.
I could have taught the firearms safety portion and combat shooting portions of the TX CHL course (and have done a better job), but, what I did find valuable in it was the emphasis on the law with respect to the use of deadly force.
(Too many folks believe they can legally chase down a shoplifter and shoot them. Not so.)
Even more valuable was instruction on how to interact with LEOs when you are carrying -- and, especially in the aftermath if you have been forced to actually fire your weapon at another human..

Instead, of making training mandatory, perhaps some sort of incentive for taking training courses (reduced insurance cost?) might be a better way to ensure that those who exercise their rights are trained and proficient to do so...
I like the idea of adding pay-per-view full-auto, remote-controlled, machine guns as well.
Barack Obama promised he was going to "fundamentally change" America. Certainly, he is working overtime to make good on that promise.
The only problem is, his idea of "fundamentally changing" America entails the complete marginalization of the historic American culture. This president really doesn't like "Americans" or their native culture and mores. He detests the Constitution. Presumably the only reason he even studied it was to find ways to undermine, subvert it. Of course, this is to undermine the very security of the God-given liberties of the American people.
So, if you detest Americans and their way of life, the best way to remediate that problem is to import third-worlders of various descriptions in vast quantities, thus to dilute the historical American fabric of civil life, thus to destroy it.
We are a nation of immigrants. But once-upon-a-time, a new immigrant came here expecting to acculturate to the American way of life. Indeed, wanted to fully embrace it. (My own Polish immigrant grandparents will be my "Exhibit A" here.)
Nowadays, people come here who have no intention of culturally assimilating; but they are awesomely good at "integrating" into the system -- whereby they can qualify for all the goodies of American society (at taxpayer expense), but never intend to swear genuine, heartfelt allegiance to it.
Worse -- well, we've all seen the "worse," but perhaps not yet the "worst" being perpetrated by some of these "newcomers" to American soil....
Excellent post, dear Jeff. Thank you so very much!!!
You are right we fought a war for the land much blood and treasure was spilled for Texas independence to give the Rio Grande back to Mexico we might as well spit on the graves of our ancestors who fought for freedoms of land Texans enjoy.
All of your suggestions for protecting this Republic are excellent. One year later, we have voted in a new President who agrees with most of your ideas—it would be a great relief if our government outlawed the teaching of Sharia law (for the purpose of proselytizing) as well as reaffirm the Right to Bear Arms.
Thanks for this contribution to FR,
T.W.
