Thursday on MSNBC’s “The Rundown With José DÃaz-Balart,†former Gov. Martin O’Malley (D-MD), a 2016 Democratic presidential candidate discussed the mass shooting in San Bernardino, CA that killed 14 and said shooting like yesterday’s happen here because, “We’re the on developed nation on the planet that doesn’t do a damn thing to keep combat weapons out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them.â€

Well, you passed a bunch of stupid laws, so I suppose you didn’t do anything to keep these weapons out of the hands of terrorists - only law-abiding people.

Bad information. They used AR-15 variants in .223/5.56mm. They did not have AK-74 clones, which are legal and reasonably common in the U.S., in semi-auto variation. Just do a search for 5.45x39 rifles and you will see many being advertised online, though they have to be purchased through legal channels.
The manufactures of the AR-15 variants that they used have been published. They were a DPMS and a Smith & Wesson M&P15. The pistols were listed were a Llama and a S & W. The firearms were reported as being legally purchased in the U.S. four years ago.

I know who “shouldn’t have them”, Democrats, Liberals and apparently Muslims.

I am not a fan of the Federal Government. That said, the Second Amendment is part of this nation’s Constitution. Therefore, the issue of the 2A needs to be taken from the states and a national constitutional carry law enacted. The idea that a citizen’s 2A RIGHT changes at a state border is ludicrous, along with the type of weapon you can possess.
We do not need a national carry law, just national enforcement of existing carry reciprocity in all U.S. territories (which includes the 50 states).
There are some good laws already before Congress, and the votes are there, but they will be vetoed by President Obama.
They would make it legal for anyone who can legally carry a firearm in their home state to legally carry anywhere in the U.S., and for persons with concealed carry permits to have them recognized everywhere in the U.S.
That is not the same as a national permit, which I oppose.
That’s a very good point. It’s one that’s certainly lost on him.
My emphasis was that we live in a nation that allows it’s citizens to defend themselves. Things like yesterday can only happen when citizen are unarmed.
This makes the Left in the United States public enemy number one. They clear the path for terrorists.

While I would rather the states did it, I think your proposal is constitutional. The 2A does not have the phrase “Congress shall make no law” it states “shall not be infringed.”
Now actually getting it through will still take a lot of time to do it. Something like this requires not just passing a law, but also gaining a consensus among the public so strong that it makes repealing carry legislation impractical for the most fervent statist/gun control advocate.
Here’s more gun control I support:
1) If you declare you are a Muslim then you are prohibited from purchasing a firearm in the United States.
