Former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger, who served under President Bill Clinton, has died at the age of 70.
"V sad start to day; just learned Sandy Berger passed away during the night," Richard Haass, the president of the Council on Foreign Relations, tweeted Wednesday morning. "Good man & friend who served nation well as bill clinton's NSA."
Antony Blinken, the current deputy secretary of state and a Berger acolyte, tweeted, "Mourn the passing of Sandy Berger --- father, husband, mentor, friend, leader and great patriot. RIP SRB."
Berger, a longtime lawyer who founded Stonebridge International, a Washington-based advisory group, after leaving government, had just been awarded World Food Program USA's inaugural Global Humanitarian Award on Tuesday.
âWe are honoring one of Americaâs most devoted and influential humanitarian champions,â Rick Leach, the group's president and CEO, said in a statement. âOn behalf of WFP USA, Sandy has been our principal voice in advocating that the U.S. and the world respond effectively to the greatest humanitarian challenge of our generation.â
Berger served as Clinton's top foreign policy adviser during the 1992 campaign before serving as deputy national security adviser and eventually national security adviser shortly after Clinton began his second term, in March 1997.
As the president's chief foreign policy aide, Berger oversaw the Clinton administration's push to expand free trade in Africa and Asia, as well as its response to the al Qaeda bombings of U.S. embassies in East Africa, the NATO-led bombing of Kosovo, and the efforts to forge a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. 20151201_mitch_mcconnell_2_GTY_1160.jpg

Following his time in the Clinton administration, Berger remained an active player in Washington's foreign-policy debates, informally advising Democratic politicians, including Hillary Clinton, and publishing articles about various international issues. As secretary of state, Clinton consulted Berger on topics from how to handle Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to how to "gain leverage over the Pakistanis" and persuade them to go after al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, her emails show.
In an op-ed for POLITICO Magazine in August, Berger warned Congress against rejecting President Obama's nuclear deal with Iran, writing that doing so would allow "Iran to move further toward a nuclear weapon, presenting the United States and Israel with terrible choices."
Berger's legacy was marred, however, when he pleaded guilty in 2005 to removing highly classified documents from the National Archives in Washington the previous year. The inspector general of the National Archives said that a staff member had witnessed the former NSA adviser wrapping the classified documents around his socks and under his pants.
He was fined $50,000, sentenced to two years' probation and stripped of his security clearance for three years. Following a Justice Department investigation and subsequent congressional hearings, Berger voluntarily gave up his license to practice law in 2007.
"While I derived great satisfaction from years of practicing law, I have not done so for 15 years and do not envision returning to the profession," Berger said, according to a contemporaneous Associated Press report, "I am very sorry for what I did, and deeply apologize."

Scooter Libby still in jail.
911 TOP docs. During the 911 CONgreasional hearings!
Not ball less, Co conspirators!
Lookit how many times each side has the goods on the other and nothing happens.
Ha ha ha ha all the way to the Fed printing press.
He was Jewish, so I doubt it.
Wow, had he been a Republican there would be negative adjectives in the headline!
I am sure they have “Top Men” working on cleaning out his personal effects. Top men.
Horse thief and liar.
He should have died in Federal Prison for his crimes. There are two arms of “justice” in this nation, the connected and the rest of us.
Look on the bright side. The Devil will be so busy, maybe it will give the rest of us a break so we can Make America Great Again.

President Obama hosted "a private dinner with a group of foreign policy experts," the White House announced last night.
Among them: Sandy Berger, who was caught stealing and destroying classified documents that related to President Clinton's record on terrorism issues.
"Former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger was sentenced Thursday to community service and probation and fined $50,000 for illegally removing highly classified documents from the National Archives and intentionally destroying some of them," CNN reported in 2005.
"Berger must perform 100 hours of community service and pay the fine as well as $6,905 for the administrative costs of his two-year probation, a district court judge ruled."
Ronald A. Cass, in 2007, noted that Berger took extraordinary steps to cover up his crime:
On May 17th, Sandy Berger, President Bill Clinton's National Security Adviser, voluntarily gave up his law license and with it the right to practice law. That is a stunning move for an accomplished lawyer, one of the nation's most influential public officials. Someone should take note. In fact, everyone should.
Berger previously entered a deal with the Department of Justice after he was caught stealing and destroying highly sensitive classified material regarding the Clinton Administration's handling of terrorism issues. That deal allowed him to avoid jail time, pay a modest fine, and keep his law license. It also allowed him to avoid full explanation of what he had taken and why he had taken it.
What information was worth risking his reputation, his career, and his freedom to keep hidden? And who was he risking that for?
Recently, the Board of the DC Bar, which had granted Berger his license, began asking those questions. There was only one way to stop that investigation, to keep from answering questions about what he did and why he did it, to keep the Bar from questioning his colleagues in the Clinton Administration about what had been in the documents Berger destroyed.
And yet, there Berger was: back in good graces and dining last night with the president of the United States. Where the topic of conversation was, presumably, how to deal with the current threat of terrorism this country faces from the Islamic State.

Yes, the republicans are, but as Boehner hinted at not long ago is many of them are scared to death of the media and how they will turn on them.
Either they use that as an excuse or they are truly scared of our corrupt media and the media uses that to control the leadership of the republican party. At least Trump shows real leadership on how you take on this corrupt media and win.
This all just goes to show the media has been in the tank for leftists and the democrat party for a long time with how they push anything bad for the conservatives and republican party and cover up anything bad about the left and the democrat party. Bergler needed to go to jail, and details of what he was trying to cover up, instead of the slap on the wrist he got.
I'm getting so sick and tired of these leftist institutions covering up for other leftists and leftist institutions all in the name of advancing their agenda and slowly eroding our Constitution. So many politicians, heads of government, crony wall street, the media both national and local, academia, the entertainment industry, need to be investigated for the abuse of power the last half century or so. The American people need to call for tribunals to bring this abuse of power to a grinding halt and make people pay for being traitors to our Constitution or these leftists will continue to get away with this BS, like Bergler, or almost any top leftists these days.
