Already suffering under sanctions imposed on Russia in the wake of previous adventures, Russians will now be forced to endure additional strictures after Vladimir Putin issued a weekend directive slashing business ties with Turkey.
Putin is said to be "incandescent" that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hasn't seen fit to apologize for the downing of a Russian jet that Ankara says violated Turkish air space. He refuses to take calls from Erdogan, has ignored a request to meet in Paris at the UN emissions summit, and vows that Turks will be made to suffer. Tourist packages and charter flights to Turkey will be banned, meaning Russians will be deprived of one of the few sunny locations to which they could afford an escape in the winter. Imports will be restricted, adding to the long list of food and manufactured goods missing from Russia's store shelves. Turkish businesses and workers operating in Russia will get chilly treatment.

He should. It is deplorable.
Has obungo demanded that Putin apologize to Erdogan yet?
I agree.......RUSSIAN LIVES MATTER!
Sure no problem to apologize.... right after Putin apologizes for the down Malaysian Jet.
better put some ice on that, Vlad.
He didn’t down it. Ukrainians downed it. They took credit for downing it right away, and then backed off. Yes they were the pro-Russia Ukrainians, but they were Ukrainians.
The lesson is learned: You can shoot down a Russian military plane, and the worst that will happen is sanctions.
I guess he picked on the wrong country this time. And the sanctions are just what the Russian economy needs. What a fool.
I have plenty of sympathy for the pilot and his family. I have none at all for Putin for putting the guy in harms way to pretend to fight terrorism.
What about the bombing of the Turkmen? Besides, I predict retaliation has only just begun. First they must investigate exactly who all was involved in the pre-planning of it.
Russian armed Ukrainian Russians shot down that flight. That was different, though. Putinistas were here telling us it was not Putin’s fault.
Russian arms are sold to many people. Same goes for our arms. In fact it was U.S. arms that downed the Russian helicopter in Syria. Our arms are being used by ISIS.
Actually, I have been hoping to hear more from Putin about the losses that the families of these pilots have suffered. My impression is that Putin has been far more concerned about the damage to the phony macho image that he tries to cultivate. That balloon has burst, but he will get over it in time.
"Turkey's prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has threatened Syria with retaliation for shooting down a military jet, and warned that Turkish armed forces will respond to any Syrian encroachment on the border.
Nato secretary general Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the alliance stands by Turkey but is not considering a military response."

You mean nobody is putting the Russian flag over their Facebook profile pictures?
Yes, and do you think these Russian punks in Ukraine bought these Russian arms from Putin? They have an “End User Certificate?” They got that missile the same way the Afghan rebels got US missiles.
This National Post is nothing but a propaganda mouthpiece for the Islamists.
Yesterday it was all about Russia’s Syrian bombing campaign falling flat. Anyone with half a brain could see that’s a lie. Today it’s all about Putin stewing over Erdogan’s lack of a public apology.
From what I’ve seen of Putin he could give a rat’s backside about Erdogan’s lack of contrition. He has a plan (that would take into account an apology). But either way he will follow through in a very methodical, measured fashion.
He’s not some little hot house flower which the US press so seems to love.
Keep poking the bear. Anyway, the piece is not true propaganda, just a certain ‘wishful thinking’ and speculative opinion.
I think Putin has a right to be royally pissed off. We’ve all speculated that Turkey was aiding and abetting ISIS, and shooting down a Russian plane flying over or near a finger Turkish soil that protrudes into Syria and makes a perfect refuge for Isis/Rebels.
Don’t matter what the news tells you. Believe this. Turkey is crapping in it’s pants and not just from Putin. I expect Turkey is going to fall apart as it’s military splits in two over Islamic issues.
If I was in Edrogan’s immediate family, I would be hesitant to leave Turkey. We know Putin’s penchant for assassination.
