Authorities Sunday night identified the man who became stuck in the chimney of a Huron home during a botched burglary attempt and died after the homeowner lit a fire in the fireplace.
Tony Botti, spokesman for the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, said the man identified by the county coroner was 19-year-old Cody Caldwell. The cause of death was smoke inhalation and burns, Botti said.
Sheriff’s Lt. Brandon Pursell said deputies received a 911 call to the 16000 block of West Gale Avenue just before 3 p.m. Saturday. After lighting a fire, the male homeowner heard screams coming from somewhere inside the house. When the resident realized a person was in the chimney, he extinguished the fire.

Smokin!
After lighting a fire, the male homeowner heard screams coming from somewhere inside the house. When the resident realized a person was in the chimney, he extinguished the fire.
Applewood smoked to perfection.
That is just weird. I have to wonder how often this happens.
I remember one about a crazy ex not too long ago.
Dead in the chimney of a home that is not his and he is a “suspected” burglar. Gotta love the MSM.
There was one in Arkansas, too - crackhead burglar who tried to get into a pawnshop. He survived, which puts him ahead of the game.
He was taking a walk and he got lost. ;^)
Goes down a chimney. Doesn’t think that maybe he’d get stuck and somebody would light a fire?
This particular criminal has my sympathies. A clean shot to the head beats being slowly roasted.
DANG!
A while back I saw a news report about a son of Obama who did that very thing. Fortunately for him, the homeowner did not light a fire, but emergency personnel had to go on the roof and pull the creep out of the chimney. With TV cameras, neighbors, and sightseers all watching, the fireman pulled the kid out...but his pants and underwear stayed stuck in the chimney.
That was a pretty happy ending, too!
Apparently this is a fairly frequent occurrence; do a search on *stuck in chimney and died* .
This may be the story about the crazy ex; the one I remember was that the guy broke up with her, then went to France on business and the woman tried to enter his house via the chimney:

you lit up my life.....my trousers....my shoes/
I have helped pull a girl out of her chimney and our FD has pulled out several others over the years.
We were able to pull her out without damaging anything.
She asked if this was going to cost anything. “You are going to pay for this for the rest of your life.”
The crowd of neighbors watching applauded when she got back on the ground.
Sounds like he had a bad case of the flue.
If the kid was under 18 the home owner ought to sue the family for a new chimney
Soots him right.
