Israeli defense minister Moshe âBogeyâ Yaâalon confirmed Sunday that Russian military aircraft, on at least one occasion, have breached Israeli airspaceâwithout confrontation.
âWhen we understood that the Russians were planning to act inside Syria, we immediately metâalso the prime ministerâwith [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, including the [Israeli] chief of staff and the assistant chief of staffâ¦we created an open channel for coordination so as to prevent misunderstandings, because Russian planes are not trying to attack us and therefore it is not necessary to automaticallyâeven if there is a mistakeâto shoot them down,â Yaâalon said, according to the Times of Israel.
Yaâalonâs confirmation came after Amos Gilad, who leads of the Defense Ministryâs political-security division, publicly admitted that Russian aircraft operating over Syria have breached Israeli airspace more than onceâand without incident, thanks to the open channels Israel enjoys with the Russian military and President Vladimir Putin.
The admission is significant for two reasons. One is that Israel is sending a subtle rebuke to Turkey, with which its relations have deteriorated ever since the rise of Islamist president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Essentially, Israel is saying that Turkey could have avoided shooting down a Russian military jet last week, even if it had crossed into Turkish airspace (Russia says that it did not).
The other is that Israel is sending an implicit signal to the world that it is operating more independently of the U.S., and that it has forged its own relationship with Russia, though their interests are often at odds.

How Turkey Exports ISIS Oil To The World: The Scientific Evidence
When Russia started really hammering the tanker trucks carrying oil ISIS was stealing from the Syrian fields is when, I'm certain, Turkey felt the need to shoot down Russia's jet.
There are other reports of Obama turning a blind eye to Turkey helping to finance ISIS by selling this oil. I don't doubt that at all. Erdogan and Obama are both unhinged evil men.
The other is that Israel is sending an implicit signal to the world that it is operating more independently of the U.S., and that it has forged its own relationship with Russia, though their interests are often at odds.
Israel is sending the message that they have no problem with Russia, as Russia has demonstrated no problem when Israel strikes weapons (mostly anti aircraft missile batteries) placed to prevent Israel's self defense in Syria and Lebanon.
First of all....you don’t use your best because there is no anti-aircraft artillery set up. And maybe read up on their aircraft.
Interesting.
“Or about as much as they care about that border.”
What does a border look like from 4 miles up?
Thanks for posting. It seems that our gov’t stopped talking about Ukraine when the Iran deal was going on.
From 4 miles? Hard to see a border if concentrating on other things. Being a few miles off is easy.
Nicely done! They make Turkey, Obama, and the rest of the terrorist supporters look like the idiots/traitors they are. This sort of response is one of the many reasons I like and respect Israel.
Good for Israel. They are always the voice of logic.
They know Turkey doesn’t care. The point is made to the rest of the world.
Russians Pilots Fail in Map reading
Everybody’s military does it. It is like the outrage over spies. OH MY GOSH, THEY SENT A SPY INTO OUR MIDST. But, everybody does. Now that comparison is not perfect in that the breeches are not a threat. But the idea of outrage is the same. It is very hypocritical.
I don't think it's the nav equipment that is the issue on this specific incident..
The aircraft they were using here is a slower flying close air support craft. The Russians are well aware of the landmarks and this particular projection of Turkish land that sticks out like a isthmus.
They have been ignoring it since they started their campaign and were warned off many times..
There is a second issue and that is the targets they were pounding again on that day.
The Target was the "Turkmen". I say that because that is the area the Turkmen call home, and the Turkmen are closely aligned with the Turkish. So in effect, bombing them is akin to bombing Turkey and the Russians are fully aware of this. Yet they are a long way toward destroying the Turkmen for reasons I can only speculate upon since the US coalition has not been firing on them and in fact has been supplying them.
Add the two issues together and you will understand why the order to fire on the Russian planes was given.
If anything, maybe it will lead to what is called a "understanding".
They are Turkmen in Syria, not Turkey. They are rebels fighting the Syrian government. Turkey can’t have it both ways, in but not in the war.
Our Air Force General says he would never have shot down the plane. Israel says same. I say level heads like those are the ones I believe.
Oh give me a break here...I did not say it was right or wrong. I explained why it happened.
Turkey canât have it both ways, in but not in the war.
I am not sure what you meant by that, but Turkey is not at war. Their actions were defensive. In the process of explaining to you how this happened, it's easy to see that in part the response was emotional. A emotional response is never a good idea, but Russia, as Russians are very prone to do, was pushing all their buttons.
If you really want to determine who is at fault here, you must look at the "Chicken/egg" argument and that says the Rooskies involvement and their ignoring of the warning about the border, contributed greatly.
If you cannot see that, then the only assumption I can make is that you care nothing about the why.
I call then like I see them, and Russia never misses a opportunity to stick a thumb in someone's eye and dare them to react.
That is exactly what happened here.
The Turks are Islamsupremacists trying to be in the Syrian War for their own reasons without any of the liabilities. Well they just found a great big liability. I side with Russia on this. They are clearly the ones in the right regarding this issue. Anger away at me. I don’t care. Very wise people agree with me.
I think we are looking down the barrel, but I am not ready to accept “the end of history.”
That’s not how the story ends.
That's exactly what I surmised, regarding your positions. And that is precisely what Putin wants you to think, because he is playing Chess while you are playing checkers..
If you are ...say middle aged or younger, I would suggest that you learn Russian as a second language, and you might want to add mandarin to the mix. I think you will need it.
