When asked who he would vote for if the presidential race comes down to Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, the former mayor of Los Angeles and a longtime Republican establishment figure, Dick Riordan, says: "I would probably go find a deserted island."
"I think Hillary is disgusting," said Riordan, a wealthy investor who has exceeded $500,000 in political donations throughout his career.
"And I think Trump is crazy," Riordan added in a telephone interview Monday.
Riordan is not alone. In conversations over the past month, GOP establishment donors have confided to The Hill that for the first time in recent memory, they find themselves contemplating not supporting a Republican nominee for president.
Most, however, still believe that Trump will flame out before they have to face that decision.
The subject of Trump came up at a recent Beverly Hills lunch hosted by former U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Rockwell Schnabel.
Seated around the table in the private dining room of the Hotel Bel-Air were several of the West Coast's most powerful Republican donors, including Ronald Spogli, the venture capitalist and former ambassador to Italy under President George W. Bush; his business partner Bradford Freeman; and Riordan.
A story that circulated after the lunch was that the donors engaged in a hypothetical question: "If it was Donald Trump running against Hillary Clinton, who would you vote for?"
One version has it that most of the Republicans at the table put their hands up for Clinton.

I’m a physician, and I’m 1000% behind Trump. I think there are many many very intelligent people on this forum who are also for Trump, so when I hear these idiots, and the pundits and the rest saying that Trump is crazy, then I guess they’re calling us crazy.
I listened to him again in Sarasota. Everything he says I agree with. Why then is he crazy?
Secondly, he is evolving into a very very capapble campaigner who has some good people around him, who are probably giving him some sound advice, as he’s now more careful than ever on how and what he says about the other people.
He always, says, “He’s a good person,” before he zaps them, and he says I will unite us, even those who I competed against.
We need Trump right now. There are very few people in this country who can stare down Putin. WE can.
Obama has made such a mess of things, we don’t even know who are enemies and our friends are. To think that we’ve allowed Turkey to take ISIS oil, that we’ve not bombed ISIS targets and that we won’t arm the KURDS is what I call crazy.
Yeah, I can just imagine these so called republican elites at their Beverly Hills luncheon saying that they’d vote for Hillary Clinton before Trump.

Well, that just wouldn’t do now would it.
I can understand saying they’d stay home. I may not like it but whatever. Saying they’d vote for someone who’s biggest qualification for the job is she already lived in the white house is unpardonable on any level.
I agree with him mostly and I will certainly vote for the ticket if it’s him against Hillary in the general - BUT - I think he needs to be much more measured and serious in his presentation - nuff said

We have got to get all this money out of the political process. Our houses of government from local to state to federal are being bought by hoards of $$$$.
It is no wonder congress does the exact opposite of what the people placed them in office to accomplish. Follow the money.
Trump is a threat to their power, Hillary is not. They can’t influence or but Trump, Hillary had been for sale since day one. Of course they will go Hillary over Trump as she keep the status quo for them.

Why is Trump considered crazy? Because as someone put it, “Trump is running on securing the border, negotiating trade deals advantageous to the American people, following our current immigration laws, taking good care of our Vets, narrowing the horrendous regulations on our small businesses and reigning in the corruption and bloat of the EPA, IRS, VA, Dept. of Ed. and other grossly overgrown departments of our government.” Pure lunacy in an upside down society.

There is a vast section of the established GOP, who are more concerned with making money than in America.
That is why China is growing so fast. Because a whole huge section of our own, are sold out.
Trump is saying we need to build up America again.
That isn’t crazy. That is completely, the only logical thing to be for.
Trump isn’t the crazy one.
The GOP establishment is, and is completely sold out.
Consider the source. The Hill, Politico, Salon, NYT and the Washington Compost. The LA Times doesn’t even count.
