Workers represented by Los Angeles County's largest employee union voted to approve a tentative agreement with county management that would give them a 10% raise over three years.
Service Employees International Union Local 721, which represents more than 57,000 county employees, including nurses, social workers and clerical workers, tallied ballots Thursday after a month long voting process.
Apart from the pay increase, the new contract would make Cesar Chavez Day an official county holiday starting in 2017, provide as much as an additional week of annual vacation every year and put some temporary workers on a path to full-time jobs.
âAs the largest employer in L.A. County, the county must set the bar when it comes to creating jobs that offer livable wages and stability to working families,â SEIU Local 721 President Bob Schoonover said in a statement.

"Roughly 9,000 California companies moved their headquarters or diverted projects to out-of-state locations in the last seven years, and Dallas-Fort Worth has been a prime beneficiary of the Golden Stateâs âhostileâ business environment.
Los Angeles led the Top 15 California counties with the highest number of disinvestment events"
Just more money they don’t have.
Los Angeles, and the entire state of California, circling the plughole. Such a beautiful state.....such tragic politics.
Cheapskate taxpayers! Why not give them 100%...and a free turkey?
Its easy when you are taking other people’s money to do it.
they have to pay them more to afford where they live so they can pay higher taxes to pay for those who do not work so they can afford their property taxes so they can pay the workers higher wages......
When the cheese gets removed from this mouse race, it all will stop and end up in BK court.
Cesar Chavez day off with pay. Do the libs know that Cesar Chavez was violently anti illegal immigrant? set his brother up with a goon squad to beat the hell out of all illegals they could find.
Illegal aliens were strike breakers, happily working for next to nothing and regular picket lines didn’t even slow them down.
Won’t be long now before LA makes Detroit look like a kiddie park.
Nothing is too good for our dedicated public servants. /s
Must be nice to be a GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE................Taxpayers be damned.................
They threatened to go on strike, but then realized no one could tell the difference.............
That is BRUTAL!
They are exporting their tragic politics to every state west of the Mississippi.
Colorado is full of potheads, and Salt Lake City just elected a gay mayor.
A guy who lives down the alley is an SEIU Purple Shirter.
Nasty, nasty little man. Only guy in the neighborhood who seems to be universally disliked.
I predict bond underwriters will flock to LA for the immediate financing of this burden. Increases in taxes and fees to follow shortly under the banner of ‘unexpected conditions and burdensome debt’.
Has ANYONE in the private workplace gotten any same-work pay increase over the past 10 years amounting to 1% per year? This is “crony unionism” where the unions campaign for politicians in exchange for sweet heart contracts.
Pattern of Detroit where the costs are future loaded to make the workers happy NOW!
Do you suppose that it is a requirement for SEIU members to be nasty and ugly.
Must be.
Just like the upcoming raise for Social Security recipients and military retirees.
Oh, wait...
At what point do these folks just start getting IOUs on payday?
