If anyone is to blame for the shooting down of a Russian warplane on the Syrian border it is Vladimir Putin.
Ever since the Russian President came to power, we in the West have become used to the Russian military adopting an ever more aggressive stance towards the Nato alliance. Starting with the invasion of Georgia in 2008, which was launched in response to Tbilisiâs desire to join Nato, Russiaâs military has been indulging in a clumsy attempt to intimidate Nato and its allies.

Sorr, should read
GREAT IDEA! I will even donate money for the airfare.
No, I don’t want war with anyone. Nor, do I want an Imperial Russia threatening the world.
You can define yourself but you cannot define me. If you’re for Putin, that’s your business. I am not for him bullying all of the world. If he were sticking to an anti-ISIS agenda, this never would have happened.
I think this is stalemate, Syria has to be broken apart and these counties around it must declare it a failed state; start administration and security operations including setting up new borders.
Russia and USSR are not the same thing. Violating airspace with no hostile intent is hardly a reason for being shot down, unless you approve of Breshnev’s shooting down of KAL 007
If you violate another nation's airspace, you do so at your own risk.
This was a stupid move on both Russia and Turky's parts but this was not a passenger jet it was a military aircraft and Russia has been playing with fire over and over doing this to many countries airspace's and has been warned over and over to knock it off. Someone was going to do this eventually. The really stupid thing was downing of the helicopter. I really hope that was the rebels and not Turkey.
The Turks knew that the fleeting presence of the plane posed no threat whatever to Turkey. The Turks are collaborating with terrorists, just as they impeded our effort during the Iraq war. I did read that the helicopter was shot down by “rebels” using a TOW missile WE provided. It wouldn’t surprise me if that were true because it appears that the Obama/Clinton Dept of State was illegally running weapons to Syrians.
Now let's see how they like it!
The Turkish military is nothing to laugh at. They have held down NATO’s right flank, the Caucasus frontier, and the Dardanelles choke point for Soviet and then Russian Federation access to the Mediterranean for just under seventy years. They are well trained, well equipped, and notoriously tough fighters. Unfortunately, the government has gone from being vigorously secular to militantly Sunni Islamic, still possessing that military and a mutual defense treaty with NATO. Unless the Russians were to decide to go nuclear, a regional fight with the Turks would be at best for them an even match.
Oh boy....time for popcorn now, for sure.
This isn’t popcorn time we are knee deep in this mess and we have an imbecilic as commander and chief. This is really bad.
Undermine the Turkish government and support the Kurds?
Except that the plane was said to be four miles inside the Syrian border. I guess maybe if the Turks were using Common Core math, they could claim that the plane was on the border, otherwise....
Erdogan himself said Islam has no qualifiers.”Islam is Islam.”IMHO Islam is as Islam does..
