BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -- President-elect Mauricio Macri's promises to revitalize Argentina's sagging economy with free-market reforms and improve strained relations with the United States resonated with voters, carrying him to a historic win that ended 12 years of often-conflictive rule by President Cristina Fernandez and her late husband.

Trump ought to tell President-elect Mauricio Macri' that he'll have more leeway after the 2016 elections.

But in all honesty? The USA would be smart to pick this ball up and run with it and establish very close relations with certain latin American countries.

The only problem is, Argentina would try and use it as leverage for the Falklands islands.

Not this guy -- he has said that he doesn't want to focus on the Falkland islands/Malvinas. Besides which, US relationships with Argentina has no leverage with the Falkland islands -- technically US policy is for no European power to have a say in the Americas -- since the Monroe Doctrine

This guy is good for Argentina and wants closer ties with the USA. Tie it in with the close ties the USA has with Mexico, Peru and Chile and this is very, very good news

Also, Brazil's leftist President will be out of power sooner or later.

"President-elect Mauricio Macri's promises to revitalize Argentina's sagging economy...."

That is, if Kirchner left them with anything to "revitalize".

Favorably inclined to the US and good prospects for an improved economy and trade. I have always thought Argentina could be a South American economic powerhouse with the right policies and political leadership. Can Macri do it? I hope so. On balance, a good development.
