Free .22 Ammunition at Gun Show, 2015

Free 22 Ammo 2015

I attended the first gun show of the season in Yuma.  I paid $60 to rent a table and give away free .22 ammunition.  I have more than I will likely shoot in my lifetime, purchased when the prices were much lower.

I could sell it, but the Bible says that generosity is a virtue.  I am curious about human nature. and the lingering lack of .22 on store shelves prompted me to give away some bulk Remington golden bullets.   I used the event to promote the blog where I do most of my writing, Gun Watch.

I gave away the cartridges in 10 round lots.  Most people were reluctant to accept "free" ammo.  They needed a  "catch".  I included a business card for Gun Watch and told them that they had to go to the blog and read at least one article.  I emphasized that there were no advertisements, no annoying videos to load that commandeered your computer for 10 minutes, and no forms to fill out full of personal information before you could see the site.   I explained that most of the articles were short, and included pictures.

The exchange was on the honor system; they got the ammo, and I expected them to read a blog article.  I warned them that it was addictive; once they went to the site, they would find themselves going back to it often.   Members of the gun culture are one of the most honorable groups that I have met.  In the 15 years that I taught concealed carry classes in Yuma, I always accepted personal checks, and I never lost money on that bet.

Back to Cabelas...if you’re really quick, they’ve got 300 round boxes of MiniMags *right now* for $25.99, limit 2.

I see them elsewhere online from time to time as well. You just have to troll the online websites and be quick about it, because they sell out in a hurry.

Not a bad price for mini-mags, in the bubble. But it still is 8.66 cents a round, pretty high.

Depends on how desperate a person is. Even before the panic, though, they were a fair bit higher than the other bulk packs.

After adding $10.95 for shipping 2 boxes of 300 (they’re even price gouging on shipping) And they don’t allow you to buy 4 boxes which would get you over the $99 to get free shipping, it comes out to .11 cents per round. Not cheap at all and I’m guessing you’re paying more for the Troy Landry guy on the box from the Alligator Hunter show. I’ll pass...

When will I be able to get something like a 2,500 round pack which is 25 100 round boxes? I used to buy everything in bulk on Sportsman's Guide before I even had my .22 but nothing is higher than 5o rounds per box anymore on boxes they have in stock and it's been that way for years. Have they outlawed bulk purchases of .22LR?

This is one of the items I had on backorder from Sportsman's Guide since 2010 IIRC and for that quantity it would actually be cheaper since it is buying in bulk.

CCI Mini Mag 2,500 rounds $159.99

Unfortunately, while the situation is very slowly improving, I doubt we see anything resembling a good market environment for 22LR buyers for at least another year or two...and that’s assuming no further panics. In the meantime, we’re going to have to put up with retailers limiting purchase orders to serve more customers (each with less product) and higher prices than any of us really want to pay.

I expect .22 prices to drop dramatically if a Republican is elected and takes the office of the Presidency in 2017.

That's what it was before Obama? What I saw this AM was 500 for $24.95, but I couldn't find the deal again. Now I'm seeing 325 22LR for $25. : /

Too good a deal to last, but this will be going on all week at the http://www.slickguns.com/category/ammo website.

That would certainly help matters.
