Longtime prisoner Jonathan Pollard has just left the Federal Correction Complex in Butner, North Carolina, after over 30 years of being held on espionage charges, his wife Esther announced shortly after 11 a.m. Friday.
Esther and a number of Pollard's closest confidantes were waiting to greet Pollard as he first tasted freedom, at 4:15 a.m. EST; from there they will set off for New York to begin their lives anew.
There in New York, a probation officer will be assigned to Pollard by the US Department of Justice, and will inspect to make sure the 61-year-old stays within all of the limitations placed on him. Any excursion beyond the immediate area of his residence will require the approval of the probation officer.

Spied for Pakistan also.
Was paid with jewelry.
Got people killed.
The ONLY way in a trillion years Obama would do something nice for Israel would be by stabbing Lady Liberty in the back.
And THAT is what this is.
Technically a house arrest on the honor system... will be curious to see if Israel will spirit him away... or for that matter, Pakistan.
Yeah, apparently Pollard’s motives weren’t so pure as some of his apologists would have it.
Caspar Weinberger was adamantly against leniency for Pollard and considered him a traitor and not some misguided soul motivated out of concern for Israel’s survival.
Twenty years ago, this would have gotten me upset. But today, with most of the inmates who we held in Gitmo running free, not so much anymore.
Yep.
I agree. 30 years is a lot of time. Its a life time for many. He can’t be the same man who went into jail. I don’t know if he is a better man or a worse man. But he is not the same man. Let him go, the US made its point, both with him and with Israel.
I was thinking the same thing. Normally Obama doesn't have much use for Israel, but in those cases where he does, it's always when Israeli interests or actions somehow harm the United States. In other words, it's OK to benefit the Little Satan as long as the Great Satan suffers more.
Of course, there's also the fact that there's a Presidential election coming up, and there's nothing like freeing a spy for Israel under his watch to get the donations coming in from well-healed Jewish Democrats for Obama's heir apparent Hillary.
He deserves a rope around his neck.
And yet, Pollard is portrayed by some posters as some sort of heroic martyr and a Dreyfuss-style victim of “anti-Semitism.” It really turns the stomach.
Yep, any sane nation would have executed this dope
He’ll be in Tel Aviv next week.
Yes ... such garbage is not limited to this forum.
Manning should hang, too.
Among others.
If that happens, it will serve as a reminder that NO foreign nation is entirely to be trusted.
Another traitor rewarded......
They can have that puke back-— he was wasting taxpayers funds all these years— bye bye-—
He should have been executed, never allowed to live, or ever be free. I truly hope he meets an early demise for his actions against the US. Shame on Obama for releasing him while he is still breathing.
