Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Monday (in a room with a governor who said he'd refuse refugees) that she understood the concerns over the security risks, but that the United States needed to accept refugees, as reported by AL.com.
Rice made the remarks at the 38th annual Southeast U.S.-Japan conference, in Birmingham, Alabama, according to the publication.
Among those in attendance was Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley (R) who had released a statement Sunday that said he would not "stand complicit to a policy that places the citizens of Alabama in harm's way." He was one of 13 governors to release statements to that effect.
Rice acknowledged Bentley at the conference, but said the country needs to be "open and welcoming" to refugees.
"I fundamentally understand that you in a position of authority, like you, governor and others, in addition to having compassion for others, you have to be safety conscious for your people," Rice said, nodding at Bentley. "What the United States has done is to be open to people who are fleeing tyranny, who are fleeing danger, but we have done it in a very careful way that has worked for us."
Didn’t one of our esteemed ruling class leaders recently proclaim that a certain minimal number of suicide bombings are acceptable. Not a serious security concern, just a nuisance?
Let’s not assume she’s saying stop all refugees.
But from an optics standpoint she shouldn’t be advocating taking refugees right now.
Sounds just like Yeb Bush.
There is no reason in the world we “need” to accept these refugees. None.
“I wonder how many peace-loving Syrians the dumb wench is going to take into her home?”
* Crickets *
Tell us why we should take them? ISIS is contained, at least according to Obama. Send them back to Syria.
Excellent summation.
West?
Another in a long list of so-called “leaders” lacking the necessary leadership requirements to even open her mouth on Foreign Policy issues.
That is about how I have seen her, she has gone liberal so many times now that I don't understand how she held her job. Just is like Carter, she will not shut up and go away.
I wouldn’t lump Cain in with the others. He’s got it pretty much right and understands the economy. I wish he had won that senate primary a decade ago. He’s one of the best.
Carson is good on many issues, but not qualified for President.
I don't see what Condi's race has to do with her foolish comments. She's just another GOP elitist from the Bush/Rove/McCain/Romney wing of the party. Her opinions are probably the same as all members of the Bush family.
Said the idiot who couldn’t even read the f**king briefing that said Bin Laden was planning attacks with planes.
If Drudge headlines matter, there have been a slew of them about the FBI leader, Comey.
I’m going to venture there is nearly a war between the FBI and the Justice Department, which is owned by Obama, and is always headed by some black sycophant, now Lynch.
We should pray for Comey. He will either be dismissed or forced to resign if he doesn’t stop doing his J-O-B.
Obama doesn’t like him cleaning up the place, nor telling the truth about conditions and investigations and capabilities.
Can it be that people without children do not understand the investment others have in the future?
More elitist pigs demanding that we be spoonfed their crap.
Establishment.
“Yepâpart of the great conservative wish to throw off the yoke of the âracismâ charge. Has led to the irrational support of Powell, Cain, West, and Carson for high office as well.”
Needs to be repeated.
