ITHACA, NY - Tuesday morning, Mayor Svante Myrick wrote a Facebook post pledging to welcome Syrian refugees to Ithaca.
Myrick said, "I'll do everything in my power to welcome Syrian refugees to Ithaca. We must guard against terrorism, and if they have no place to go these refugees are the most likely to be victims of terrorist acts."
Accompanying the post was a poll conducted by Fortune Magazine in 1938 and republished in The Washington Post this morning. The poll displays American's opinions toward refugees displaced during World War II in 1938.
The poll showed that Americans were overwhelming against allowing refugees - 67% of respondents responded with the option "Circumstances as they are, we should keep them out."
Myrick said, "If we turn away all Syrian refugees, we are committing the same sin."
Myrick will be participating in a call with the White House later this afternoon. The call, he says, will help him learn "what can be done to safely welcome refugees" to New York.
The response to Myrick's post was largely supportive, with many praising Myrick's compassion. Others expressed concerns, echoing common fears that Syrian "refugees" could be radicalized terrorists themselves.
Others criticized Myrick's priorities, noting that Ithaca is already facing a housing crisis and has many homeless of it's own whose needs are not being met.

Well, some of them might have the skills needed to kill off some of the “surplus population” a few score or a few hundred at a time.
Not only him, but all the idiots who let the the animals in...
I think he should take 100K. He and that town’s people deserve them.
A family member lives there and works for Cornell University. She is liberal to the left of Stalin. She lives by herself so maybe she will invite them into her house to live.

They’ll be busy not working at many of the manufacturing jobs that have left the NYS years ago. Or, perhaps they will spend their days boycotting/raging at wineries throughout the Finger Lakes. Goodbye tourism.
I’m probably wrong, but didn’t Ithaca, or one of the nearby cities, have a large Ukrainian population at one time? If so, I do not recall any trouble from them. Gee, what could be different about them and the Syrians... Hmmm.... Let’s see, what could it be...
Wondering.....is there federal money associated with "taking in" refugees? Do localities get a grant of some sort?
Follow the money, sez me. Figure all politics are motivated by three things - money, sex, and stupidity. Combinations are allowed.
“The problem is that Colorado is a naturally beautiful state if you ignore the cities.”
So is New York.
.
Isn’t he just sooooo inclusive. Puke!
I think that was Utica.

She couldn’t live with a husband so he is gone a few months ago. She prefers “rainbow” colors since the Supreme Court ruled in favor of homo marriage. I said she was left of Stalin.
Ithaca, the City of Evil, now in even more evil.
I’ve noticed that a lot of women move to Ithaca and “discover” their hidden lesbian identities.
Same here with ahole brown.
Is Ithaca already a craphole, or is it a craphole wannabe?
