At a campaign event in Springfield, Illinois, Donald Trump suggested a boycott of coffee giant Starbucks over the design of its Christmas coffee cups. The all-red design has angered religious conservatives who see it as part of an effort to undermine the meaning of Christmas.
"Starbucks is taking merry Christmas off [their cups] no more merry Christmas," Trump said.
"If I become president, we'll all be saying merry Christmas again," the candidate said to applause.
Trump told a raucous crowd, "Maybe we should boycott Starbucks. I don't know."
The real estate mogul also attacked his main rival, Ben Carson.
"This is a strange election, isn't it?", he said. "If you try and hit your mother over the head with a hammer, your poll numbers go up."
Carson has faced a barrage of questions in recent days over claims about his allegedly violent past.

Screw radical Muslims.
I find it valid because quite frankly Iâm sick of the political correct nonsense.
Starbucks is doing this in order not to offend non-Christians. This is while Christians are being butchered in Syria by ISIS.
Iâm done with Starbucks unless they change their position.
Actually I forgot Iâve been boycotting them since the CEO when on a rant against the 2nd Amendment.
Thatâs fine he does not want any guns in his stores. Thatâs his business, but Iâm not going there. They must reverse these two positions first, before I step back into another Starbucks.
Iâm sick of this Anti-American businesses.
Anyone but Starbucks. There are plenty of great coffee and coffee shops.
Ditto
If Trump truly understood the conservative movement, he would know not to pick up on threads like this. Instead he’s just pandering to us based on assumptions or bad advice, waving a bible around like a prop and whatnot. How is he supposed to set priorities in governing the country that we would like when he barely knows how we think?
The line about Carson was funny though.
So, then, what are you suggesting? Government regulations that limit a business’s ability to generate profit? Isn’t that, I don’t know, sort of what we’re against?
I say "Merry Christmas" now. Am I not supposed to?
Trump’s point is that it’s getting more and more politically incorrect to say Merry Christmas. It’s that simple.
So how's he going to change that?
I have no idea why you would be asking me this.
Starbucks pretty much has a lock on the coffee business. The good coffee business.
That is it. I would be nice if there were other choices for decent coffee through competition. Regular coffee places are not the same their coffee is terrible.
Where you got that government should intervene from what I said is odd.
See what? Quit insulting, and objectively inform me. Iâm listening.
.....................................................
How convenient for you to accuse me of “insulting” when you called me an idiot!
I would suggest you practice what you preach and open your eyes to things “outside the box.’
Obviously you have no objective/informative content to share, more interested in hurtling abuse than enlightenment. I get enough of that elsewhere, don’t need more from an anonymous stranger. I asked for useful information, got demeaning rhetoric instead.
Obviously you don’t remember that you hurled abuse at me. How convenient! Do your own homework if you wish to be “enlightened.” I’ve been here long enough not to be a “stranger” to many here who also happen to agree with me.
If you’ll re-read the thread, you’ll notice that the insult was qualified, to wit: IF you don’t provide information backing your assertion, THEN you are an idiot [ELSE I’ll respectfully consider your opinion].
So far you’re working pretty hard to reach the “then” clause.
How about providing the requested information instead?
If you’ll reread the thread, you’ll clearly see I told you, “Do your own homework.” You may think you can play games with words and get away with it, but there are some who see your game from the get-go.
What game? I looked for someone professing offense at the flat red cup, and didn’t find one. You demanded I prove a negative when indicating you had proof of a positive. I asked for the proof of the positive, and insinuated that anyone continuing to demand proof of a negative - while claiming proof of a positive without providing it - was an idiot.
Insofar as you continue to NOT provide any information about anyone having ever been “offended” by Starbucks’ choice of cup decorations, and hold that I should prove that nobody has been, and continue to argue about who insulted who rather than providing your own useful information on the primary subject, I must indeed conclude that you are, in fact, an idiot. And yes that’s intended as an insult.
Happy to recant anything if you’ll just provide a link to someone indicating their offense to the cup design in question.
You were calling Starbucks a fascist monopoly, which I (clearly mistakenly) took as a call for somebody on high to do something about it. To me, Starbucks won the battle of the open market. If they did that by murdering competitors or bribing officials for a better deal on taxes and zoning, not so good, but otherwise, it’s tough luck for all the other coffee sellers.
I did not use the word fascist. I only used the word monopoly.
And hence all the confusion in our interchange: I was responding to the wrong post! Apologies...
Apology gladly accepted!
