Indonesia's anti-drugs agency has proposed building a prison on an island guarded by crocodiles to hold death row drug convicts, an official said on Monday, an idea that would not be out of place in a James Bond film.
The proposal is the pet project of anti-drugs chief Budi Waseso, who plans to visit various parts of the archipelago in his search for fierce reptiles to guard the jail.
"We will place as many crocodiles as we can there. I will search for the most ferocious type of crocodile," he was quoted as saying by local news website Tempo.

It takes a lot of chickens to bribe a crocodile.
We need some in the Rio Bravo.
Do the crocodiles have a union?
That’ll take a bite out of crime.
Louisiana uses alligators at Angola.
What about sharks with frikin’ laser beams attached to their heads.
I thought they shot them.
Can Crocs take the pollution in the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo? Cut down on wall expenses for Mexico.
Oh, to send half of DC to Indonesia.
I like it. See my FReeper profile for another suggested alternative to the death penalty.
“I thought they shot them.”
Depends on the severity of the offense. I believe Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore reserve the right to execute illegal drug users, and dealers. They don’t always, but it ain’t a good idea to test the waters in court : )
I was thinking one of those countries just recently shot two of them.
aquatic zombies might also work
I like this idea!
Any island guarded by *those* suckers is as safe as can be.
Singapore,Indonesia and Malaysia execute drug traffickers regularly.A lot of them seem to be Aussies, perhaps because those countries are favorite vacation (and transit) spots for them.IIRC an Aussie drug courier was just executed in that region about a year ago.The country was outraged...but it still happened.
Two of them - Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran - executed by firing squad in Indonesia in April. They were two of what are referred to the Australian Press as the 'Bali Nine' - nine traffickers all arrested working together. Of the other seven, one is serving twenty years, and six are serving life sentences. Some Australians were outraged by the executions - most really weren't.
It's actually pretty rare for Australians to be executed for these crimes - generally they escape with lesser sentences. As a matter of policy, Australian governments oppose the death penalty and generally try to obtain some sort of clemency through diplomatic means. Singapore hanged an Australian in 2005, but that was about the only other case that is at all recent.
Personally, while I don't object to the idea of Australian governments doing what they reasonably can to help Australian citizens in trouble overseas, I've no problem with these countries enforcing their laws as they see fit. Only an idiot could fail to be aware that these countries execute drug smugglers and those who do it, nearly always do it for pure greed.
Agreed! I remember the first time I traveled to that region...Singapore to be specific.A large sign,in several languages, caught my eye in the Immigration/Customs hall..."Death Penalty For Drug Traffickers Under Singapore Law".Seeing it I was tempted to toss my blood pressure and allergy medications into a nearby amnesty bin.
