A 9-year-old girl died Sunday after a pit bull attacked her while she played with friends in a Long Island backyard, authorities said.
Nassau County police officers responded to a 911 call at a Holland Avenue house in Elmont at around 10:30 a.m. and found the dog attacking the girl. When one of the officers entered the yard from the house, the dog charged at the officer, who shot and killed the animal, said Detective Michael Bitsko. "It was a violent attack," he said. "They had to put the dog down."
The girl's identity hasn't been disclosed by police. There had been no previous complaints to police about the dog, Bitsko said, adding that he didn't know why the dog attacked the girl.
The dog's owner, Carlyle Arnold, 29, lives in a second-floor apartment of the house. He was arrested on an unrelated charge of violating an order of protection and was being questioned about the attack.
A vicious killer pit bull. What else is new?
People are stupid, animals are animals and you never, NEVER let non-family children play with the family dog unsupervised. I dont care what breed it is.
Dumb. Tragic. Idiotic. Wasteful.
The good news is that some loser in life got to feel cool for having a tough dog. OK, so the tough dog eventually tore apart a girl who died in agony. Small price to pay for stoking the egos’s of the trailer park and ghetto crowds.
Thank you
She was a nine year old. Not an infant. This was the work of a Pit Bull and it’s loser owner.
Sheesh......and they think guns are dangerous. These dogs are just awful. But for some reason they are a protected class of dog.
it was such a gentle animal....great around children, at least most of the time, I just don’t understand.....the girl must have provoked my poor pet.
A pitbull? Are they sure? This just doesn’t sound right?
My chocolate lab would never hurt anyone. She absolutely loves everyone. Personally, I have never met a lab or golden retriever that was anything but very friendly.
not only that, but having a breed like a pit bull...you MUST always be aware that the dog can turn in an instance...
Who trusts a critter?
I don’t even trust people
My lab is a cupcake but i would never let him in the hen house
Feathers will fly
One of Cesar Milan’s worst bites was from a Yellow Lab:

A couple of my employees have had bad contacts with other labs.
I had a Chesapeake that could be ungodly fierce.
I would concede that it is largely the owner.
Are you saying there are moderate pit-bulls?
No dogs deserve such a heinous insult.
Mine would try and make friends. I can leave food on the coffee table and she won't take it. She is the absolute best dog I've ever had. A real sweetheart.
I own a Golden Retriever, a male dog who is a terrific watchdog. He will try to rip your face off if you enter our house or fenced yard. He has a high prey drive and we are looking to re-home him before he kills one of our cats.
