Surely Washington Post TV critic Hank Stuever can't be this impervious to reality. Perhaps it was his manifest disdain of Donald Trump that overwhelmed his faculties of perception and/or his journalistic standards. In his review of Trump's SNL appearance last night [subtly headlined "Trump’s sorry night on ‘SNL’: An overhyped bummer for us all'], Stuever actually claimed that when Larry David yelled "you're a racist" at Trump, he seemed "genuine enough." But if ever an actor went out of his way to signal that he was just joking, it was David.
Have a look at the clip, and you'll see that--far from expressing genuine outrage--David at one point struggled to keep a straight face. And when Trump asked him what he was doing, David sheepishly shrugged his shoulders and threw out his arms in apologetic explanation, saying he "had to do it" because they promised him $5,000. "Genuine enough?" How about "obviously kidding?"

It was honestly David’s feeling, which was validated at the end when the entire cast came together on the screen and David turned and walked away from Trump when pleasantries began.
I didn’t see it but I’ve read about it. Larry David is a big leftie but he’s more than disciplined enough in a production setting to not do this unless it was part of the skit.
It wasn’t Larry, it was Bernie Sanders walking away, to get a Latte.

Agreed. Very strange situation. It was very possible that David was saying what he believed but doing it in a way suggesting he was joking.
But there is no way the WaPo reviewer was being honest when he claimed David seemed “genuine” He clearly didn’t.

Whether Larry David believes it or not doesn’t matter. He succeeded in taking the wind out of the sails of all the protesters hoping for someone to disrupt the show.
Maybe we are reading too much into Larry David turning away at the end of the show. Perhaps he was just letting the other stage members get their time in with Trump. And if he did turn away out of spite then who cares. He’s a lefty and no surprise there.
He does a very good Bernie Sanders. That’s worth the price of admission.

Larry David is genuinely very funny. His Bernie Sanders is out of this world. This is stupid. He is too liberal to vote for Trump, he may not like the guy, but that was an act re the $5k, and very funny too.

Look, in the real world, folks, Larry David realizes that Donald Trump is “The Man”, and no matter how he feels about Trump...he wanted to appear on SNL alongside Trump!!!
