Mall management: Tree will be added to 'cutting-edge' Santa display

GARDEN CITY - Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.

A Christmas tree will be added to the futuristic Santa photo area of Roosevelt Field mall following an outcry from Long Islanders.

Photos showing this year's photo-staging area devoid of any Christmas decorations went viral online. As News 12 has reported, a petition was started urging mall management to drop its new set-up, dubbed "Glacier," and instead return to a more traditional holiday display. Many customers had threatened to boycott Roosevelt Field and do their holiday shopping elsewhere.

Following News 12's report, mall management responded. "Key elements are still being added to the Glacier experience at Roosevelt Field over the coming week - and after hearing early customer feedback, one of those elements will be a traditional Christmas tree alongside the Glacier experience," management said in a statement. "Together, the mix of traditional and modern design will create a magical North Pole."

The statement says that Roosevelt Field is one of seven malls across the U.S. owned by Simon Properties to roll out "Glacier," which it decribes as "a uniquely modern and interactive Santa experience featuring cutting edge artistic design."

However, many had expressed confusion and outrage that the Santa photo-op would not include a Christmas tree, ornaments or other traditional decor.

A friend of mind from Long Island posted a link to the boycott page on Facebook, which included a photo of a couple of sad 6-foot lighted trees that mall management apparently pulled out of storage after the outcry. It looks like a bizarro office cubicle with a couple of dusty old Christmas trees. Upon further research, apparently Roosevelt Mall is not the only one participating in this "Glacier Experience" that will replace the traditional mall Christmas decor. I saw a mall in Charlotte, NC, is part of this abomination as well.

I mean it may as well look like an Apple Store... which is a more religious experience for most consumer/taker class people.

(*Not reading further....)

This is relatively minor.

Of course, I would look askance at such cold displays and be disappointed, but I don’t think I’d be “outraged” that there was no real Christmas decor.

Save the outrage for anti-Christian stuff, like not allowing a cross or not allowing Santa at all.

LOL...I think they ditched the nativity a while ago. Now they’re attempting to kill the Christmas trees and replace them with this marshmallow hut “Glacier.” Next year, Santa will be fired. Soon, the malls will begging Christians to come and spend their money for the nondescript “winter event.”

Roosevelt Field is too far out there for me to shop at anyway. (I mean out on the island.) For Santa, we go to Macy’s in Herald Square.

And you wonder why people hate the Left. Maybe people need to read George Orwell's famous essey Politics and the English Language and figure out why many dislike the Left nowadays.
