ANCHORAGE â
Sen. Lisa Murkowski is running for reelection in 2016 to seek a third full term as Alaskaâs senior senator. She made the official announcement at the Williwaw restaurant in downtown Anchorage Friday.
âWeâve got a year in front of us, and I donât take anything for granted,â Murkowski said.
During the last election, Murkowski lost the Republican primary to Joe Miller, but ultimately succeeded in the general election through a write-in campaign. On Friday, the senator said this time, sheâs doing it âthe old-fashioned way.â
At least 100 supporters gathered at Williwaw for the announcement.
âShe does for Alaska what â collectively â the rest of us donât have access to, and she can do that in D.C.,â said former Alaska House Speaker Gail Phillips.
Murkowski has already raised about $2.4 million for the campaign, and has a total of nearly $3 million on-hand.
âSheâs ready for her strongest effort, and she ought to be,â said Forrest Nabor a professor of political science at the University of Alaska Anchorage. âI think sheâs going to be in for a dogfight no matter how things shake out.â

Miller is a USA academy graduate and has IVY school law degree. Not a nobody in my eyes. Murky's credentials pale in comparison (except that her daddy was the governor)
You have a pretty good read on Alaska politics. The AK repub party threw him under the bus and joined league with the dem/socialists, unions and native bloc vote. I have not doubt they will do it again. I left the repub party after that "moment of clarity" lesson about the supposed conservative party. Alaskans like to "talk" conservative but they vote big government and entitlements every time.
Murkowski is a liberal Democrat. She is not a Republican. Treat her as such and take her out.
Perhaps “politically unknown” is what I should have said. Not someone you’d expect to beat a sitting Senator.
Still unbelievable, APPOINTED BY HER DADDY TO MAKE UP FOR NOT GETTING HER THAT PONY. Such a thing should not be tolerated in this country.
What should not have been tolerated was allowing a DEFEATED GOP primary candidate run a sore-loser 3rd party write-in with the overwhelming support of the opposition Democrats.
Anything goes in Alaska apparently, state law says the dems couldn’t remove their gubernatorial nominee from the ballot and Bill Walker couldn’t put their LT nominee on his ticket, but they were allowed to anyway.
And write in votes for Murkowski were counted if even if they were spelled wrong.
