You guys are too funny. This isn’t about hats. You are deflecting from the obvious issue. I could care less if he sells hats. What I do care about is being honest.
So I can assume we won’t be hearing about Donald being completely self funded any longer?
Trump never said he would donate his donations to charity. He said he would accept small donations to his campaign from those who wished to donate. He did not solicit them.
He said he would donate the profits from his book to charity.

I don't know how much money they raised if any but Donald did know that people were paying to get in and it didn't seem to bother him any"
The person who ran the event charged $100 per person to cover the costs of the event. I don't believe Trump received anything from it.

When he talks about being self funded he is talking about not having super pac's like the rest of the candidates and that his is willing to pay for everything if people chose not to send in donations.
I sent a small donation to his campaign because I think he is doing our country a great service whether he wins or not.
After I made the donation I received a thank you email but have not one request for more money.
On the other hand, I also donated to Cruz and received daily and sometimes multiple emails daily asking for more.
I am not criticizing Carson. I think political operatives are taking advantage of him and using him to fill their own pockets.
I pretty much agree. The guy is off on a two week book signing tour. He’s definitely not going to be the GOP nominee.
The article stated that according to FEC filings a vast majority of the money Trump spent this summer (3.7 million in unsolicited donations) came from donors unlike when he had first started campaigning when he spent 1.9 million.
He self funded his campaign when he first started in the spring because he had no supporters then, and esp had no Super Pac.
Your statement "trump's campaign is no longer self funded" is duplicitous at best. His campaign is still self funded and if the donations all dried up tomorrow he'd still stick to his budget and schedule. He has several times said he had 20 million budgeted for ads through september and hasn't used a penny yet, though I think he is starting his first ads this week. A campaign can be both self-funded and accepting of UNsolicited donations.

I wouldn’t say ‘racism’ per se. But I would suggest that it is a form of black privilege wherein many Republican or conservative leaning voters like the fact that he is black and that fits some kind of “hey, we’re not racist” theme to offer up to the populace at large. We’ve had that to some extent with Colin Powell, Ambassador Keyes, and with Representative West, albeit each of these were much more well known.
I don’t have a grudge against him, nor many complaints about him except for his ideas about the Second Amendment and illegal immigration which keep me from voting for him.
The truth is that I believe we wouldn’t even know his name if he were white.

Carson’s success actually does make sense to me. Conservative Americans are sick and tired of career politicians, so this is a good opportunity for an outsider to gain some traction. This explains Trump’s support, and there are likely a lot of folks who see Trump as a something of a clown and gravitate to Carson as the best alternative.

No I do not, I have problem with anyone of any color who uses religious Messianic imagery in any way, shape or form to gain power over the naive.
I like Ben Carson, but will not vote for him either. Though I do hope that the Republican President elect will choose him as his Secretary for Health and Human Services.

Uh, yes it did. He appeared and spoke at the event. He got the exposure & publicity. Free. What is he doing with this money? He isn’t returning it so because he says he didn’t ask for it he is self funded? Well, uh, I guess thanks everyone for the new definitions of self-funding. It’s sort of like when someone wants to go to college but wants to pay their own way but grandpa give them a check even though they said they didn’t need the money. Instead of giving the check back, you cash it and spend it on tuition. Are you still paying your own way?

Of course he is. He is not a wealthy man like Donald Trump is. Should only the very rich run for POTUS? Is that the new requirement? Most candidates have to fundraise.
I donated to Scott Walker when he ran for governor and I’m still getting letters asking for money to cover his presidential campaign debts. That is not unusual in the least nor is there anything wrong with it. And what does Ted Cruz’s fundraising letters have to do with any of this except to try and deflect attention to the fact that Trump is indeed accepting donations and he isn’t giving the money away or returning it which there is nothing wrong with either. But at least be honest about it.
You obviously believe what you want to believe with no reasoning involved so I won’t bother trying to reason with you any longer.

Well, well. I really appreciate that information, all new to me.
I was thinking maybe someone like Alan Keyes (and some direct-mail or other? organization he was associated with years ago), might be involved here. It seems like after he retired from being a professional (never-going-to-win) candidate, he went into professional fundraising with some company he? created. My memory fails me now, sadly.
