BOSTON (CBS) - President Alena Mulhern has a nice ring to it. But the little girl from Kingston can't actually be elected to our nation's highest office. Alena was adopted from China. So since she wasn't a US citizen from birth, the Constitution forbids her from becoming President. She doesn't accept that and Wednesday she took her campaign for change to the State House.
"We should all have the opportunity to run for president," 10 year old Alena Mulhern says as she testifies before a State House committee.
She's not going to let anyone tell her the top job is beyond her reach just because she was born in China.

The same could be said for Obama.
I must not be much of an American either. Please explain the rationale behind this Constitutional restriction, particularly for an American child who has never known anything but America.
Sorry, I didn’t realize I messed up my post. I started writing something else then changed in the middle. It’s rather a non sequitur, no? I meant to say she isn’t old enough. I don’t understand why anyone would actually allow a child to speak on public policy.
Ain’t that the truth...
The attitude is typical of this gibmedat generation. I want it. Therefore, I’m entitled to it.
You’re prolly not far off.
At least she wants to change not just ignore the US Constitution.. that is a step up from most libs.
The child has aspirations, and obviously quite a bit of sophistication and drive.
Your post, rightly or not, seemed to indicate a sound reasoning behind the prohibition on foreign born Presidents. I can think of none.
And it's not like she is the first to bring it up. The matter has been bandied about with Schwarzenegger in the past.
Or of an American child who aspires to the Presidency, and can think of no sound reason it should be denied to her.
Do you have a good reason?
Yup.
She is merely a tool being used by the Left. Besides none of it matters anymore. Our current occupant was raised abroad by anti-American Marxists and brought up for 20 years in a hateful church, politically mentored by a former bomb throwing terrorist.
John Jay in corresponding with George Washington on the subject, stated that it was particularly appropriate to limit the Presidency to natural born citizens because the President was the Commander-in-Chief of America's military and the natural born citizen requirement therefor would act as a check on our military from ever falling into the hands of a foreigner.
She's almost assuredly being raised by fairly conservative, upper middle class, parents who I can guarantee were vetted nine ways to Sunday by Social Services, both American and Chinese.
Frankly, one of the big reasons Americans have been adopting from China is to avoid all the pitfalls that have been mandated into American adoption.
She has a decent argument.
Being natural born citizen has nothing to do with where one was born. It has do with having never had any other other allegiances and knowing nothing but being an American.
Her parents are both American. She has had no other legal parents or citizenship. Known no other society or system than American.
Contrast to Obama who qualifies because his mother was a US citizen, but given his life vs hers, she really fits the reason behind the reasoning behind the provision of being natural born more than Obama.
This is an interesting question.
This little girl is not a foreigner. She’s American. She has never known any other language beside English.
Even so, I hardly think the reasoning behind either Jay’s or Story’s opinion holds water.
No, she is a little American girl who wants to be able to be President. There is no other agenda.
Thankfully, it’s not your call. The founding fathers took a look at the issue and wisely laid down a bright-line requirement for the Presidency so as to prevent foreign intrigues against the United States.
And by the way, the opinion on the natural born requirement wasn’t held by just Jay and Story. It was held by Hamilton and Madison and Washington amongst many others.
Really? And how do you think getting that particular "bright-line" erased would start?
That's okay. If they are predicated on the same thing as Jay and Story it'll be easy to change.
