Trump campaign to negotiate directly with TV networks on debate formats
Washington Post ^ | 11/02/2015 | Costa

nald Trump and his advisers have decided to work directly with television executives and take a lead role in negotiating the format and content of primary debates, which have become highly watched and crucial events in the 2016 race, according to Republicans familiar with their plans.

Trump plans to reject a joint letter to television network hosts regarding upcoming primary debates drafted Sunday at a private gathering of operatives from at least 11 presidential campaigns, the Republicans said.

The move by Trump, coming just hours after more than a dozen Republican strategists huddled in the Washington suburbs to craft a list of possible demands, effectively throttles an effort by the campaigns and the letter’s drafter, longtime GOP attorney Ben Ginsberg, to find consensus and work collectively to negotiate terms.

But acting alone is like discarding your Ace and King when you are holding a Royal Flush

Trump has the entire deck.

Everyone else is fighting over the shrink wrap it came in.

“Trump is nothing like Obama.”

Trump’s behavior is the same. Trump speaks/acts like a benevolent King, but still a King. Obama speaks/act like a King. Both do whatever they want to anyone they want and no one can stop them. Kings are never good as they can run your life.

I don’t hate Trump but I see what he really is as I’ve been an evaluator of behavior for over 30 years. I’m sure you people who are supporting bombastic Trump, think he is wonderful, but I see what his behavior would be if he were president.

You assume Trump is bluffing. He is simply raising the stakes. His play is that others will follow suit. They are cowards and he is playing them. I hope Cruz and Carson join him in the coupe.

Only a stupid network exec would say “bye” to one of the biggest ad revenue draws of the political season.

I know.

It’s fun to think of the hell Hillary! is going to go through.

And I’ll bet no one has even warned her that things will get a thousand times rougher for her than they are now.

Damn! This is so great, the RNC is being disemboweled even as we sit here reading this.

Just DAMN!

There is ample proof that whatever Trump does he is drawing record crowds. He is making tons of money for the networks. If he isn’t in the debate, the viewship will tank.

It’s not conceit. It’s leverage.

Just heard, 4:20 pm, Chairman Reince Priebus say he and the RNC are in charge of the debates.

That was sort of my contention when I read that something like 11 managers from the various campaigns met ... and I thought 'why didn't the candidates themselves meet and cut out all the middle men?'

Trump probably knows more about the inside workings of networks than any of the other candidates or their managers. Trump has had business with the networks many years.

Al Haig just rose from the grave and said that He's in Charge.

Depends. How about a demand for all the ad revenue to go to charity?

And you are assuming a big drop in viewership if Trump doesn't show. Maybe. But I'm not so sure. It wouldn't matter to me. He wasn't all that big a factor in Debate #3.

Just out of curiosity, have people from Cruz’ past stepped forward to recount how he went out of his way to personally help them in their hour of need? I’m just wondering; any info will be welcome.

Btw, you are not a very keen, well informed observer, to be equating Trump to a Malignant Narcissist. Do you have no clear idea what a Malignant Narcissist is?

“Trump takes that away, and prebus doesn’t have a job....”

Debates are a minor part of Reince Priebus job.

A news network has to deal with Priebus/NRC or it won’t be a legitimate debate. In that case, each candidate would have to decide if he/she is going to that illegitimate debate. I believe the rule, is, if one does that, that candidate is not invited to be at any legitimate debate.

We’ll have to see how this falls out. However, this is Trump - he doesn’t care what the rules are - he will do his own thing and that’s his behavior that troubles me - if president, he won’t care what the laws are, either, he will do his own thing like he has done all his life. We already have a president who doesn’t care what the laws are, he does his own thing.

“have people from Cruz’ past stepped forward to recount how he went out of his way to personally help them in their hour of need?”

Indeed. The whole state of Texas, millions of people, stepped forward when Cruz went to the Supreme Court of the United States, and kept the Ten Commandments on the grounds of our state government. Numerous times he has argued in the Supreme Court and won for our state against Eric Holder of the Justice Dept. of the United States.

Their behavior is the same - you say one is a “Malignant Narcissist”. I believe the other may also be a narcissist. It’s not good to have a narcissist president of any kind.
