A Russian civilian plane with 217 passengers and 7 crew aboard crashed, and is believed shot down by a missile, over Sinai early Saturday morning, Oct. 31, shortly after taking off from the Sinai resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh for St. Petersburg.
Initial reporting on the fate of the plane was confused and is still not completely clear. It was first reported to be missing after contact was lost with Egyptian air control; it was then said to be safely on its way to Russia over Turkey. Russian aviation sources then reported the A321 to be missing over Cypriot air space.
Finally, the Egytian prime minister's office confirmed that a Russian passenger plane had crashed in central Sinai and a cabinet level crisis committee had been formed to deal with the crash.

Gee, I hope they can sort the good ones from the bad ones so that no innocents get hurt. Where's that picture of Baraq squirming at a wrestling match while Mooch stands and stares?
>>and that there were no indications of terrorism
The FBI came to the same conclusion before the pieces even hit the ground.
I strongly suspect Lockerbie style sabotage.
uh...Debka...it was at 33,000 feet!
Pilot cited a problem and requested emergency landing.
NOT A SHOULDER FIRED MISSILE!!!
The Sinai is under the defined control of the Egyptian govt so the Russians should expect full cooperation in an investigation and a brisk security response by Egypt if required
However, it seems uncomfortably similar to the Ukrainian aircraft disaster and a plane load of highly level islamist mucka muckas was just downed in Libya in the past week or so
An Egyptian aviation official says the pilot of the Airbus A-3221 had reported technical difficulties before losing contact with air traffic controllers. Ayman al-Muqadem, a member of the Aviation Incidents Committee, said the pilot had reported his intention to attempt to land at the nearest airport.

“A criminal case has also been opened against the airline, Kogalymavia, for “violation of rules of flight and preparation for them”, Russia’s Ria news agency reported.”
1983: Soviet jet fighters intercept a Korean Airlines passenger flight in Russian airspace and shoot the plane down, killing 269 passengers and crewmembers. The incident dramatically increased tensions between the Soviet Union and the United States.

Russia 24, a state-owned news channel, and other Russian media outlets are saying the pilot reported technical problems and requested a landing at the nearest airport before the plane went missing. Officials have not corroborated those reports.
Russia 24 also quotes the FlightRadar 24 website as saying the plane was descending at a rate of 1,800 meters per minute, or 67 mph, before radar contact was lost.
Weather in the area was clear, CNN reports.
The Egyptian Prime Minister meets with ministers and security officials regarding the crash. An ISIS-aligned insurgency is active in parts of Sinai, but there is no initial indication it played any role in the crash.

Do you really think family members of dead Malaysian airline passengers feel satisfaction over the similar violent deaths of 117 Russian tourists?
Among the victims were the President of Poland Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria, the former President of Poland in exile Ryszard Kaczorowski, the chief of the Polish General Staff and other senior Polish military officers, the president of the National Bank of Poland, Polish Government officials, 18 members of the Polish Parliament, senior members of the Polish clergy and relatives of victims of the Katyn massacre.
The group was arriving from Warsaw to attend an event marking the 70th anniversary of the [Katyn] massacre, which took place not far from Smolensk."

Did Putin Blow Up the Whole Polish Government in 2010?
A Second Look
A plane crash at Smolensk in Russia four years ago wiped out the Warsaw leadership. It used to be seen as an accident. Now, after Putin's games in Ukraine, people aren't so sure.
Four years ago this week, Polish President Lech Kaczynski was killed in a plane crash near the Katyn Forest in Russia where he was flying to honor the 22,000 Polish officers, lawyers, priests and professors slaughtered there by the Soviets 70 years before. Ninety-five other military, political and public figures including his wife died on that plane. One of the more heartbreaking details to emerge was that First Lady Maria Kaczynska's body could be identified only by her nail polish and the inscription inside her wedding ring.
Less than two years before the crash the late president had given a speech warning that if Russian aggression was not stopped in Georgia, which Russia had invaded, it would extend to Ukraine, the Baltics, and possibly Poland as well. "We are here to take up the fight," he said. And many Poles still believe that their president died in the cause of that effort. Physicist Kazimierz Nowaczyk is one of them. ..."

Coming from Libya, there would be those with experience in this type of operation and reason for violent IS members to hate Russia
One of the most powerful tools the Kremlin has in its secret arsenal of Special War is provocation, what they call provokatsiya.
While Moscow cannot claim to have invented this technique, which has existed as long as there have been secret services, there's no doubt that Russians have perfected the art and taken it to a whole new level of sophistication and deviousness. At times, it can become a strategy all on its own (not always, mind you, with edifying results).
Provokatsiya simply means taking control of your enemies in secret and encouraging them to do things that discredit them and help you. You plant your own agents provocateurs and flip legitimate activists, turning them to your side.
When you're dealing with extremists to start with, getting them to do crazy, self-defeating things isn't often difficult. In some cases, you simply create extremists and terrorists where they don't exist. This is causing problems in order to solve them, and since the Tsarist period, Russian intelligence has been known to do just that.
While this isn't a particularly nice technique, it works surprisingly well, particularly if you don't care about bloody and messy consequences. ..."

MANPADS hit at 33,000 FEET..??
Ridiculous.
A Bic is not a flamethrower.
I would venture to say that this plane was NOT loaded with SIGHTSEERS and I am not shocked to hear that a missile brought it down. I wonder what kind of event it will be to usher in the last and final Crusade.
