Free Republic is under a Malware Siege!
Vanity

Posted on 10/27/2015 4:49:01 PM PDT by 2harddrive

The full-page bright orange Google Malware Warnings can occur when posting to ANY thread. It appears leftists are trying to discredit Free Republic, and to scare off all users.

It does it on THIS thread, too!

Free Republic is under SIEGE!

I followed a FR link to a video about William Casey - since that time I’ve had a cookie called “self-repair.mozilla.org ... and as many times as I erase it - it comes back. Nothing I have works against it.

Maybe there’s a connection.

Thanks - got it!

Basically, it’s full of crap. Apparently, they have two issues with FR. One is that a user (a long-time user not a hacker) posted a link to an image that (unknown to him) resides on a site google has registered in their database as a malware site. We’ve pulled the post and notified google. Have no idea when they’ll stop flagging us.

The other is that we have links to aim.org. NSS. Aim is a conservative site. Have no idea how many, but I’m sure we’ve had hundreds or even thousands of links posted to aim.org. We’re not going to pull them.

Why google is apparently randomly flagging unrelated threads on FR I have no idea. Your guess is good as mine.

But it’s not just google Chrome. Any browser that relies on google’s database is doing this.

If you want to stop these erroneous and obnoxious warning messages immediately, you can set a browser option to ignore such warnings. Your virus protection software will catch any real viruses.

Thank you all very much for notifying me. I’ve received dozens and dozens of these already. Sorry, cannot answer each one individually.

Note: IE and Edge (Windows 10) are not doing this to me, or is Safari (iOS). Draw your own conclusions.

I got it earlier today too... when trying to make a post, said it malware error and I ended up triple posting until I just hit refresh and realized it posted 3 times already. I ran spybot after and it has not happened since.

Yeah, had this happened to me a couple of days ago. Took hours calling Dell to get it fixed.

It's a bogus message. If you look at the scripts that run on the FR page, you'll see that the =only= script running on the page is google analytics. As opposed so some of the sites that are supposedly "OK" that have 10-14 scripts running that do who the hell knows what.

FR, since its inception has been one of the cleanest pages on the internet. Now, what you might be picking up are graphics from =other= sites that are hotlinked into a thread, but that's not actually FR.

More likely than anything else, it's a bunch of leftists reporting FR as a malware site, and getting their jollies watching people freak out.

Chill out.

Google's VirusTotal scan of this page shows malware in 0 of 65 scans. Meaning, no malware.

That's exactly what this is. A bunch of leftists or GOPe clones at firefox or google have claimed that FR is a malicious site. Their pages for how to "disinfect" your site are so insanely generic it's not even funny. They need to de-list FR, because it's amongst the cleanest site on the net. The only script that rons on FR is the google analytics. If you can find other webpages that are as innocuous, I'd like to know about it. It seems that these days everything on the planet has 10-15 scripts running that do who the hell knows what.

Google has orders to shut down Free Republic..

Really? Sources?? Evidence?? Who is saying this??? Just you???

I think if the site is probably under attack by something less nefarious.
