This is where I’ve broken with the GOP over the past decade and especially the past year.
In a different time and a different era this merger would be blocked by the Justice dept. under antitrust grounds. Today it doesn’t matter though who is in power, as W would have allowed this to go on also.
The GOPe doesn’t understand that we do actually need a few basic ground rules enforced in a free market, a big one of which is anti-trust.
If the GOP doesn’t understand this and take some action to keep the markets free, the “workers of the US” will eventually unite and we’ll be headed towards Bernie Sanders socialism which will be a much worse outcome.

Yeah, I live in NYC. But I didn't know D.R. wasn't so big outside of NY. Their first store was on the corner of Duane and Reade streets in Manhattan.
AMEN!
We have a new CVS, and it’s less than 1/2 mile from my front door but I’ve never been into the damn PC store.
Walgreen’s is just 1/4 mile up the Road from CVS and on the same side of the Road.
LOL. Go figure.
.
I thought you were in NYC - cool story abt the name
We dont need no steenkin Anti-Trust Laws.”
Well, apparently a whole lot of people in DC agree with you. Wonder if they will start calling themselves Republicrats or Democans? Sure will be a lot of website names up for grabs and we can get back to simple names like: Grocery Store, Gas Station, Drug Store, Grass Store, etc.
I just don’t know any more. I do know that I didn’t expect to be dealing with this garbage at my age. Golden years they aren’t.
My local Publix is way cheaper than CVS or Walgreens on personal care and pharmacy.
Founded in 1960, the chain was started with three stores by Abraham, Eli, and Jack Cohen, with a warehouse located between Duane and Reade streets on Broadway in Lower Manhattan.[2]
Duane Reade takes its name from the Companys first successful full-service drugstore, which opened in 1960 on Broadway between Duane and Reade Streets in Manhattan. The streets themselves were named after early American politicians James Duane (1733-1797) and Joseph Reade (1694-1771).[3]
Carl's Jr. bought Hardee's ages ago. Hardee's still retains their name, but the small Carl's Jr. star added to the Hardee's logo after the buyout continues to grow, little by litte.
