Carson edges Trump in national poll
The Hill ^ | 10/27/15 | Jesse Byrnes

Ben Carson has edged out fellow GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump in a new national poll, taking the top spot from the real estate mogul for the first time in months.

Carson is supported by 26 percent of GOP primary voters, followed by Trump at 22 percent, according to the CBS News/New York Times poll released early Tuesday. All other candidates follow in the single digits, with Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) at 8 percent and businesswoman Carly Fiorina and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 7 percent each.

The poll represents growing momentum for Carson, who surpassed Trump in several polls in the early voting state of Iowa over the past week ahead of the next GOP debate on Wednesday.

"Ben Carson is now doing well," Trump acknowledged on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" after the poll came out, adding that he believed Carson would see more scrutiny as a front-runner.

Saw this, on another forum....

New OANN Poll has Trump 36-22 over Carson. Reuters 32-19, Morning Consult 35-22, OANN 36-22 - ALL being ignored by media. (NYT poll irrelevant)

Hmmmmm.

Hear hear!

I just posted my own response to a challenge from another FReeper without reading yours but obviously we agree.

Why don’t the dozens of press flunkies chasing the candidates around to listen to the same speech 100 times and giving the same standup news bulletin 100 times instead speak to real live people instead of quoting polls?

Polls are used to manipulate, not to reflect. This has been demonstrated so many times I am literally mystified when anyone places any faith in a poll especially a year before an election.

It will be interesting to see how Trump’s narrative will change if he is no longer number 1 in all of the polls. Currently he has been very successful in using the polls to drive a narrative of inevitability, but can he continue to do this if he becomes number 2 or even number 3 nationwide?

I think that the GOPe is trying to force Donald’s hand. Carson is very useful in second place and insulates Donald from the pack. If he is taken out, Trump stands alone and the full force of Jeb and Rubio will be felt. I don’t know if Cruz has enough appeal to help out here.

It’s a chess game right now and funny that this happened right after the family pow wow in TX.

“I believe the American people would love a President with a strong moral character who is respectful, thoughtful, decisive and a little bit humble.”

I’m sure lots of stupid people on the right think that to only then act surprised when the left keeps winning.

But they will keep on backing losers because of sentimentality like that.

Carson will devour the lame brained hillary and spit out pieces of her scripted message

If Ben Carson is the nominee, he will be chewed up and spat out by Hillary. She will (metaphorically speaking) drag his corpse through the streets like the Islamofascists did to our ambassador in Libya.

it is unwise to overlook the fact that Dr Ben has the finest intellect and control of the language of any candidate in modern memory

You know, I keep hearing these things said, but to me, they appear more to be an informed ability than anything else. I suppose one can make the case that he *has* to be smart to be a neurosurgeon - fair enough. But I just haven't seen anything from him that suggests that he's this super-intellect, or that he's even particularly well-spoken. Keep in mind that soft-spoken is not the same thing as well-spoken.

he will take any progressive utterance and use it to destroy her

No he won't. He doesn't have the huevos to do that. Plus, the fact that he largely agrees with Hillary on immigration, "social justice," etc. won't help him to distinguish from her, either.

she will not know she has been stabbed with his supersharp stiletto mind until the moment she dies

Sure. And then Magneto-Ben will play 10th-dimensional chess with her corpse and move the pieces with his mind, right?

That was not my point. My point is simply that’s it’s an unprofessional, illegitimate poll. I’ll wait for a poll with at least a better sample size and MOE before I claim anything about anyone.

What is Carson saying that is drawing more people to him in the polling? How large are the crowds at Carson rallies compared to Trump’s?

Has Carson had any rallies? All I hear about is his book signings. Isn't it funny that he climbs in the polls when he's on a book tour instead of campaigning?

Carson is on talk shows all the time, usually putting his foot in his mouth. His campaign stumps are never carried by the major networks because no one shows up for them. In the meantime Trump draws record grounds to all his speeches. Carson is the latest RINO/democrat-clone flavor of the week used by the MSM to try and get Trump out of the race. What gets me is how anyone could possibly think this friend of Sharpton and Farrachan is conservative. By his own mouth he said he became a republican in 1985 after years of voting democrat, then got mad at the GOP in the middle 90s for impeaching his friend Bill Clinton over a sex scandal (he was impeached for lying to Congress), and left the republican party for YEARS and voted independent, casting votes in 2008 for Obama as president. Less than one year ago he became a republican. This Carson character is a dark skin version of Barack Obama. But Fox is eating up him up because they hate Trump. He’s also pro-abortion inspite of spouting off about the evils of abortion almost daily. The record shows it. He referred women to the “best” abortion providers and sees nothing at all wrong in being complicit to abortion.

I believe the American people would love a President with a strong moral character who is respectful, thoughtful, decisive and a little bit humble.

Absolutely. And that's why we should all vote for John Quincy Adams next year in 1824.

Polls continue to show that 78 percent do not want Trump.

By that same measure, the polls also show that 74% don't want Carson, and something like 95% don't want Cruz.

Still want to try to make that argument?

This poll bounce is based on....nothing.

And ultimately, that's what it will probably amount to.

That’s nice? “Movement from trup and movement toward Carson”....that means you don’t understand what was written.

According to this poll, with it’s Margin of Error of 7%, Trump could be leading 28% to 19%. By THIS poll.

That is not movement toward Carson is it? What this is, sitetest, is an unprofessional poll.

Polls according to many:

If I like the results = legit
If I hate the results = not legit

The results were then weighted in proportion to the adult population. The margin of error for the Republican registered voters is 7 percentage points.

355 'weighted' respondents. These fat respondents 92 said Carson 78 said Trump 28 said Rubio. 7% MOE? That is 28 fat ones. It migh me as much as 28-19 Trump. If you look at the second column in the link below...called Oct15a, how is there a 10 point swing in a week?

http://www.scribd.com/doc/287251908/Toplines-for-a-m-CBS-NYT-GOP-poll

This counters with CBS' own state polls. How can Trump be 26 ahead in New Hampshire and behind 4 nationally given all the other polls out there. CBS should be embarrassed to put out fertilizer like this with NO published internals.

Something tells me the establishment is pulling out all the stops to put the skids on Trump’s bid for the nomination, and Carson is their last opportunity. We shall see.

Exactly. And if their plan works and they can drive down Trumps numbers they know it'll be a piece of cake to eliminate Carson.

Polls are used more to drive opinion than they are to used to demonstrate opinion.

“Carson is very soft spoken and does not have that problem”

Especially when referring women to the nearest abortion provider.
