A Frustrated Gowdy Says Future Benghazi Hearings Will Be Done in Private
Townhall.com ^ | October 26, 2015 | Cortney O'Brien

Benghazi Select Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy gave Hillary Clinton the option as to whether she wanted to testify in public or in private. She chose public, and it now seems he regrets that decision.

“I can just tell you, in the private interviews, there is never any of what you saw Thursday. It is one hour on the Republican side, one hour on the Democrat side, which is why you’re going to see the next two dozen interviews done privately,” he said.

“The private ones always produce better results.”

Instead of producing results or new information into the investigation in Benghazi, many argue that last week's hearing produced only partisan bickering and entertaining sound bites between Gowdy and Elijah Cummings, one of the Democrats on the panel.

The panel infighting unfortunately overshadowed more important exchanges between Clinton and the committee members. For example, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) revealed an email Clinton wrote to her family after the Benghazi ambush that proved that she knew it was a terror attack. Yet, Jordan reminded her, she told Americans it was the result of a YouTube video. The committee now had proof that the former secretary of state knowingly misled the public. It should have been front page news. Instead, outlets replayed Gowdy vs. Cummings all day.

In short, the committee appeared more intent on fighting one other than getting answers from their witness. Clinton, as a result, left the hearing in one piece.

Gowdy has to be frustrated that a year and half's work has been jeopardized in the past few weeks. He had already been on the defensive in the aftermath of GOP Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy's comments that the Benghazi committee had a political agenda.

As for how the committee's most visible witness performed last week, Gowdy said she offered little substance.

“Did she cooperate in answering the question? Yes. Was it an accurate answer? No.”

"Benghazi Select Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy gave Hillary Clinton the option as to whether she wanted to testify in public or in private. She chose public, and it now seems he regrets that decision."

Of course he does. She cleaned his clock.

Their only strategy appeared to be wear her down into making a huge mistake. She didn't, and it turned the hearings into her campaign commercial. She emerged looking better and they now look like it was all a partisan witch hunt.

If I were him, I'd want to spend the rest of my life behind closed doors. What an embarrassment our "leadership" is.

Everyone could be correct. All they have to do is stop lying to themselves about the evidence in front of their eyes.

Why FR still has people glorifying Gowdy I will never understand.

Their only strategy was to wear the public down until they didn’t GAF. Same as the Issa Kabuki.

There is one party folks. Learn it.

That's exactly how I read it

I'm commenting only on the hearing

Gowdy and the republicans showed no mercy (imo) and were very good in their attacks, statements and accusations

Sorry but that's pure banana republic stuff.

Given the rate at which evidence is appearing, there may not be time to put together an airtight case before Xero and the Hildabeast leave office. Would you declare the statute of limitations on a murder or treason expired?

There is no reason then not to turn the evidence over to a grand jury and let it rip.

“What we want is the motive, and we’re almost there, but it must be built carefully. “

I pray that this “construction” is continuing.

No, but I guess I'm not as excited by the pace of new evidence as you are.

I saw some development of the political angles but nothing substantive related to the real mission in Benghazi.

Where did you get the idea that I'm happy with this process? I simply don't choose to engage in wishful thinking as to how hard it will be to pry documents and testimony out of Democrats. That doesn't mean we should give up.

We need a junkyard dog interrogator. Gowtey may have been a good prosecutor, but he was not then up against an ideological Marxist bitch who has the best propagandists in the world working for her (as has Obama).

We need an old nasty guy like Rep. Parnell (HCUA) or even Joe McCarthy who didn’t take any crap from those he was questioning, though he certainly lacked tact, or even the late Gen. Counsel of the Sen. Internal Security Subcommittee, Jay Sourwine (I testified before him in Executive Session and he was sharp as a newly honed ax).

We need a committee leader who will call out Clinton and her aides every time they lie, obfuscate, deviate, divert, or cackle, and charge them with perjury and obstruction of justice.

Most Republican congressmen and women (except the grand inquisitor herself, Michele Bachmann), have no idea how to conduct a “real” investigative hearing.

Hell, I’ve been a witness before 4 congressional committees/hearings, including those led by Sen. Strom Thurmond, Clement Zablocki, Ed Herbert, and Doc. Morgan. They didn’t put up with any shit from any half-assed witnesses.

Neither did leftist liberal Rep. Steve Solarz when the Hanoi Lobby tried to con him into believing that there was no genocide going on in Cambodia even at the time of the hearing (Gary Porter, Guy Gran, Bill Goodfellow, etc).

A well-run hearing is a thing of beauty. The trouble these days is we are using JVers in the Major Leagues and the American people are the losers, as is the truth.

Amnesty Gowdy’s “honest-country-lawyer” routine is way past its sell-by date.

Were it not for Gowdy we would not know about the “missing e-mails” nor in fact about the treason committed by Obama’s bitch in using a personal email server.
If it were not for Gowdy we would not know that she sent an email to her family admitting knowledge about the “Terrorist” attack or that she spoke to the people from Libya and Egypt while telling the American People it was all because of a video.
We would not know about the missing blocks of emails either. We have learned many other things piece by piece that had Gowdy not persisted in face of the Democrats and the Alphabet agencies attempt to block the truth would never have been known.
Whether or not the scumbag people continue to support Hillery (like Cummings and ‘Rat voters), is not Trey Gowdy’s fault. It is the fault of Americans who don’t know or care about right and wrong.
No one person is perfect, but I consider the facts obtained by Gowdy’s pursuit of the truth will eventually expose the Clintons and the Adm. to charges of TREASON once we get the country in the hands of someone who knows the difference between right and wrong......and don’t vote for people because of the color of their skin or their sexuality. We’ve fallen a long way from the straight path as a nation and criticizing someone who is doing a hell of a lot better than nothing is not going to cut the blockage. Gowdy needs our support, not our criticism.

THANK YOU!!!
I am in Europe at the moment and stayed up all night to watch the hearings. I wonder how many of the critics here watched the hearings and how many just relied on press releases.
I felt much was gained and that the Dems were exposed for the frauds they are. Cummings was beyond disgusting. People on here who continue to beat down Gowdy should be spreading the word on the things learned, but no, they are exhibiting a disgusting syndrome too prevalent in America today. I call it cookie-cutter thinking. It has to be instant success or nothing! Many are looking for the “Hail Mary” to win the game. I am watching the slow but steady march towards the goal line. This hearing produced the PROOF that Hillery LIED TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE about the Video. There should be an instant uproar to get the guy who made the Video released from prison if he is still behind bars. The proof of his innocence is Hillery’s email and calls to Egypt and Libya. That would create some attention. Maybe there is still some small spark of decency left in the American people if we dig deep enough. But it will take some positive thinkers. All this negativity is disgusting!

So you just follow the lamestream media ranting about her success? Frankly, I found the Dems on the committee disgusting. They just lined up in her defense and didn’t question ANYTHING.
Did we know about her email to her daughter admitting it was a terrorist attack before this hearing? Did we know about her telling Egypt and Libya the truth, but not the American People before this hearing? Therein lies enough ground gained to continue the push for the truth. There is a large crack in the wall that has been built around her if people would THINK for THEMSELVES instead of insisting on instant pudding!

These are damning revelations, but since the enemedia theme was "no blockbusters," people believe it.

Congratulations on being a thinking person. You are absolutely right, she has widened the crack in the wall through which the light can expose her once and for all.
She OWNS the Benghazi scandal.

thank YOU

I agree with your analysis and suspiciously view many FReepers now because of this post

I was duly impressed with Gowdy's ability to keep the focus (as I am with all that can stay on point).

I'm not as sharp as I used to be at 68, but I hung on to every word and nuance from both sides AND the witness and imo, this was an immediate conviction if it had been a trial rather than a hearing

I'll never understand men and women that are lawyers and prosecuters, acting in those capacities, that don't actually prosecute a criminal
