WASHINGTON, D.C. The American Suppressor Association (ASA) is pleased to announce the introduction of the Hearing Protection Act (HPA) by Rep. Matt Salmon (AZ-05). This historic piece of legislation will remove suppressors from the purview of the National Firearms Act (NFA), replacing the antiquated federal transfer process with an instantaneous NICS background check. The HPA also includes a provision to refund the $200 transfer tax to applicants who purchase a suppressor after October 22, 2015.
The American Suppressor Association believes that citizens should not have to pay a tax to protect their hearing while exercising their Second Amendment rights, said Knox Williams, President and Executive Director of the ASA. The removal of suppressors from the National Firearms Act has been our ultimate goal since day one. For months, we have worked alongside Rep. Salmons office and the National Rifle Association to craft this legislation. Although we recognize that introducing this bill is the first step in what will be a lengthy process to change federal law, we look forward to working with Rep. Salmon and the NRA to advance and ultimately enact this common-sense legislation.

It is a PUBLIC HEALTH issue!
And it is a pet friendly bill.
My dog has a nervous breakdown every time I get my rifle out to shoot a groundhog.
Dogs everywhere will be able to live in peace and freedom from fear of guns.
Actually, it isn't really. There are very effective electronic ear protection devices that can be had for short money.
What I like most about it is, if passed, it will be easier for average gun owners to obtain one and thus keep busybody hoplophobic neighbors from calling the cops whenever they hear the report from a firearm.
But, I'm all for this legislation. I don't think for a moment that the Feds will allow it but...what the heck...gotta start somewhere.
I picked up my first two suppressors this year. Suppressors are not only neighbor friendly, they also help with controlling recoil which makes for shooting which is more fun.
Reduce revenue? Forget it, the d-bags won’t have it.
About damned time.
Man, would I be a Happy Camper!!!
Not in tune with PA politics or the parties balance of power what chance has a Bill like this have of passing?
This makes too much sense for Congress to pass it. Instead we’ll get 50,000 unvetted radicalized Muslims to come into this country unencumbered with free housing and free money to do with as they please.
Actually it is it protects the hearing of people near the event, as well as peace and quiet in general.
“Actually, it isn’t really. There are very effective electronic ear protection devices that can be had for short money.”
I disagree. Just because an alternative exists, does not mean that another solution should be made difficult to obtain. There are advantages to both solutions.
Wearing electronic hearing protection is difficult inside of a helmet or with a variety of head gear; it is a pain in hot weather or when it is raining.
Just because one type of blood pressure medication is available does not mean that it is not a health issue to ban other types.
Suppressors tend to be very effective recoil reducers, and are some of the most effective flash suppressors.
They are excellent for use inside of buildings and at night.
It’s for the children.
This legislation would be even better if they removed the NCIS requirement as well. You don’t have to have a background check to get earmuffs. Supressors are no different.
I fired my M28 .357 with full-charge ammo wearing a thin leather motorcycle jacket, shooting gloves and a full-face motorcycle helmet. It was surreal experience, like watching a silent movie of a revolver being fired. I heard nothing, and only felt the shove back of the recoiling gun. No thump in the chest from the percussion, either.
Either repeal 18 USC 922 (o) or Chapter 4 of GCA ;)
Awesome!!! I’ll make a note to call my congress critter and ask for support. Gun mufflers should come with each gun, imo.
If you need a good laugh, here’s the huffy post’s usual farts.
