A day after his campaign slashed staff and salaries to retrench ahead of the Iowa caucuses, Jeb Bush decried the toxic tone of the presidential race and suggesting that demonizing people isnt what he signed up for in this campaign.
Mr. Bush made the remarks at a town hall in South Carolina, where, according to a report by CNN, he seemed fired up about taking on the person who has overshadowed him during the campaign, Donald J. Trump, who is leading most Republican polls so far.
If this election is about how were going to fight to get nothing done, Mr. Bush said, then I dont want any part of it. I dont want to be elected president to sit around and see gridlock just become so dominant that people literally are in decline in their lives. That is not my motivation.
He added, Ive got a lot of really cool things I could do other than sit around, being miserable, listening to people demonize me and me feeling compelled to demonize them. That is a joke. Elect Trump if you want that.

Ya, if Bush got the nomination, he’d give Hillary another award.
Jeb means non-toxic like McCain in 2008 and Romney in 2012.
That turned out just fine, didn’t it.
Jebbie is getting desparate and losing it. He will soon have wifey or his mom take Trump on. This could get even more embarassing than it already is.
Toxic tone... Such as telling voters he doesn’t need them to get the nomination? FUJB.
Let’s all be civilized on the Titanic.
That’s a big ZOT! What sort of idiot doesn’t know what a presidential race is like? Especially when Dad and Bro ran and won after enduring the same type of campaign. Politics isn’t a Marquess of Queensberry rules sport.
NO more Bush’es!
Go home and retire and leave us the heck alone ..
Listening to VOTERS would have made this obvious 5 years ago.
Listening to Rove and Co will only result in continued failure.
A whiny girly-man is exactly what voters want. /sar
To some, “AMERICA FIRST” and “WE WIN, THEY LOSE” is toxic. But then they are the ones who don’t love freedom enough to fight for it.
He has gone off the deep end.
Non-operable.
Bye bye, Jeb.
Wow.
True story: His wife, Columba, played a demon on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It was a short role.
W’s comments about Cruz were pretty toxic, brother Jeb. As you reap...
I hear Yeb is crying to mommy & daddy’s that little Donald is picking on him.
I find it entertaining in a twisted sort of way.
We don't want Washington to get "something done." That's the problem with these doofuses. Gridlock is a feature, not a bug. The Framers created Washington to get as little stuff done as possible.
I hope pansy milquetoast Bush expresses a lot more despair in the near future.
All Jeb knows how to do is spout Jebberish.
What frickin candy ass.
