On March 18, 2013, Cummings introduced the Presidential and Federal Records Act Amendments of 2014 (H.R. 1233; 113th Congress), a bill that would amend federal law regarding the preservation, storage, and management of federal records. One provision would require that all government employees using personal email accounts to do business copy their emails to an official government record system to be recorded and archived.

Democrat Leader Elijah Cummings Could Face Up to Five Years in Prison for Illegal Attacks on True the Vote–
Last April House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) released a report implicating Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) in colluding with the IRS and Lois Lerner against the nonpartisan voters rights group “True the Vote.”
Catherine Engelbrecht, the founder of “True the Vote,” testified before Congress in February.
She was targeted by FBI, IRS, ATF, and OSHA after she filed for tax exempt status for her voters rights group.
Engelbrecht said this during her testimony before Congress and Cummings,
“Frankly, to sit before my accuser and be silent in the face of what he did was unconscionable.”
New IRS emails released by the House Oversight Committee show staff working for Democratic Ranking Member Elijah Cummings communicated with the IRS multiple times between 2012 and 2013 about voter fraud prevention group True the Vote. True the Vote was targeted by the IRS after applying for tax exempt status more than two years ago. Further, information shows the IRS and Cummings’ staff asked for nearly identical information from True the Vote President Catherine Engelbrecht about her organization, indicating coordination and improper sharing of confidential taxpayer information.
Chairman of the House Oversight Committee Darrell Issa, along with five Subcommittee Chairmen are demanding Cummings provide an explanation for the staff inquiries to the IRS about True the Vote and for his denial that his staff ever contacted the IRS about the group.
“Although you have previously denied that your staff made inquiries to the IRS about conservative organization True the Vote that may have led to additional agency scrutiny, communication records between your staff and IRS officials – which you did not disclose to Majority Members or staff – indicates otherwise,” the letter to Cummings states. “As the Committee is scheduled to consider a resolution holding Ms. Lerner, a participant in responding to your communications that you failed to disclose, in contempt of Congress, you have an obligation to fully explain your staff’s undisclosed contacts with the IRS.”
Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.), the ranking member of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, today ripped the committee and Politico for printing inaccurate portrayals of e-mail traffic between then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and others in fall 2012, as the administration was facing a backlash over its handling of the Benghazi attacks. “[I]t now appears that someone who was given access to the Select Committee’s documents leaked doctored information to the press in order to make unsubstantiated allegations against Secretary Clinton,“ writes Cummings in a letter to Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), the select committee’s chairman.
At issue is this June 17 Politico story by staff writers Kenneth Vogel and Rachael Bade, a scoop that detailed the interactions of Clinton helper Sidney Blumenthal, Clinton “enforcer” David Brock and the groups that he (Brock) had founded, including Media Matters for America. Blumenthal, as Politico reported, received more than $10,000 per month from Brock’s groups.” The story relied on “sources” for detailed information on e-mail exchanges among the parties. The background for those exchanges is the political volatility of Benghazi, the Sept. 11, 2012, Libya attacks that claimed the lives of four U.S personnel. Obama administration officials were under scrutiny for not only leaving the U.S diplomatic installation in Benghazi vulnerable, but also for allegedly misleading the U.S. public about the nature of the attack.
Here’s how Politico initially reported an exchange between Blumenthal and Clinton:
“Got all this done. Complete refutation on Libya smear,” Blumenthal wrote to Clinton in an Oct. 10, 2012, email into which he had pasted links to four Media Matters posts criticizing Fox News and Republicans for politicizing the Benghazi attacks and challenging claims of lax security around the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, according to a source who has reviewed the email exchange. Blumenthal signed off the email to Clinton by suggesting that one of her top aides, Philippe Reines, “can circulate these links,” according to the source. Clinton responded: “Thanks. I’m pushing to WH,” according to the source.

Cummings et al, are desperate that the Committee end immediately, so the majority cannot analyze all the evidence, connect all the dots, document all the lies and contradictory stories, and present it all in a comprehensive report.
I am not sure how to read Gowdy at this point. He seems disgusted with Washington corruption and having to work beside ignorant clowns who get a pass for outrageous conduct. He has no support from his own party leadership, who see this as another opportunity to surrender. I fear the “worst weeks of his life” involved being threatened, and forced to fold.
Elijah Cummings is about as corrupt and morally bankrupt as they come.
